While in South Dakota in early August for a family reunion another place I sneaked off to was Falls Park near downtown Sioux Falls. I love it there. A huge park with lots to see and great photo opportunities. The Big Sioux River runs through the park and makes a bunch of beautiful cascaded water falls.
They are very beautiful.
For a time in the early part of the 20th century the energy of the falls was harnessed to generate electricity. Those days are gone but the old power house has been repurposed to a cafe. I will say it again, I love it when buildings are repurposed espcially when they are as beautiful as this one.
The falls are loud and are mesmerizing.
I climbed the nearby observation tower and took a photo of the one area of the park. Silly me didn’t take a photo of the observation tower.
And I found several geocaches while I was there. (Geocaching is an online treasure seeking game. Check this link to learn more.) I love geocaching.
There was a sculpture called The Farmer there. Farmers do lots of sitting and thinking of course if they want to be successful and of course they got to get up and do things as well.
Me, I’m not much of a farmer. I’m a retired natural gas guy. I just take lots of photos. I have 89,006 on flickr so far. Five or six of them are pretty decent. Not sure about the rest.
I’m linking with Skywatch Friday and My Corner of the World.
Me enamore de la cascada. Te mando un beso.
You’re right, what great place for photos. The falls are awesome and the repurposed building is stunning. I love to look for new photo opportunities, but you have found a very special place. Well done Yogi.
Looks like a very, very nice place. That Cafe is absolutely fabulous! I like old buildings too.
I’m a big waterfall fan so I love those photos, also love that the power house is now a cafe.
5 or 6 are decent! Hah!
This looks like a great spot. There is something about rushing water…
I think a bit of natural planting around it would be nice, but it seems like a lovely place to escape to for a while.
That’s one powerful waterfall. Good to see the building is now a cafe.
That view of the park was bedazzling. Looks like a drone shot!
Have a good week, Alan.
The waterfalls are gorgeous … the rushing water looks and sounds so refreshing. A powerhouse re-purposed as an interesting/historic place for a meal is a very resourceful idea.
I like the angles you have used. Makes your photos really interesting.
I’d love to spend time in that park. I find waterfalls and cascades entrancing. Lovely post.
LOL… 5 or 6 decent photos out of 89,006! Beautiful waterfalls, and I like the photo of the sculpture. That should bring your total up to at least 8! 😉
…the Big Sioux River sure has a bunch of beautiful cascaded water falls!
Really beautiful waterfalls.
Great view of the park from the tower.
Looks like a beautiful place. And you saw it on a beautiful day.
I love waterfalls especially when they are embedded inside thick forests! Hope you had fun time
Love the falls and the pretty sky. Great photos and selfie shot.
Take care, have a great day and a happy weekend!
That’s such an awesome place. Running water, wonderful greens and brilliant weather – life is good, isn’t it!!
The waterfall is gorgeous and I love the sky with lots of clouds. The waterfall is loud and refeshing to hear, thanks for the video and have a wonderful weekend.
Would you believe I was in Sioux Falls overnight in May of 2002 and never even thought about hunting down the Falls? My loss. It’s an interesting park. The Farmer statue was interesting – I wonder why the statue wasn’t a farmer in action but yes, it takes thought to farm, too.
I can almost hear the sound of the falls because the photography is so wonderful! Agreed. There must be 8 photos. LOL!
The falls and sky make impressive photos ~ Love the ‘farmer’ thinking ~ Have you ever seen movie Field of Dreams with Kevin Costner ~ ??? ~
Wishing you good health, laughter and love in your days,

Waterfalls looks amazing, Great photos.
Beautiful falls. I do love the building. It was a surprise to see that third still photo! I wasn’t expecting the falls to be surrounded by such flat land. It looks like a wonderful part to visit.
…park to visit. Although it’s a nice part of the state to visit too.
Love the pretty cascading waterfalls. Buildings when repurposed for another use is more interesting and has some history to it. Thanks for hosting Skywatch.
