I was hiking on Turkey Mountain and came across this black stick. Only it wasn’t a stick.
It was a friendly rat snake. We looked at each other for a little bit and then keeping his eyes on me he folded back along side his body and headed into the woods. I wish I had a video of it.
I was on a bike ride and while crossing the Arkansas River I spotted this big bird on a tall tree spreading his wings out. I don’t think it was an eagle but maybe a Turkey Vulture. The only birds I have seen do this were Anhinga’s down in New Orleans a few years ago. Sorry for the photo but all I had was my cell phone. Thank you to the dear readers who suggested that this bird is cormorant. I do believe that is right.
We are getting lots of rabbits in our back yard. Thankfully our dog Kodi ignores them.
And a blast of birds from one of our bird feeders.
That’s all for this week. I am linking with Eileen’s Saturday’s Critters. Check it out. Lots of talented photographers post there.
Hello,
I do not mind seeing the Black Rat snakes, they seem to mind their business and move on.
The bird in the tree could be a vulture or possibly a Cormorant?
Cute bunny and capture of your feeder birds.
Thank you for linking up and sharing your post. Take care, have a great weekend. PS, thank you for leaving me a comment.
Eeeeee! A snake! I know they are good but it still gives me a start when I see them on the trail. We have a lot of big black racers here. Happy weekend!
i am not a big fan of snakes, as they do frighten me. i enjoy seeing them as zoos, then i find them interesting!! i think the bird in the tree is a cormorant, they often sit that way as they dry their wings!!
I commend you for not freaking out when you saw the snake. They terrify me, maybe because I do not know which ones are dangerous…
I’m afraid of snakes, but they’re wonderful to see anyway.
I don’t mind snakes at all, but they startle me since I don’t expect them! They’re pretty.
I love rat snakes! We have them here, but I’ve never seen one on our property. maybe one day… when I’m mobile.
Linda serpiente. Te mando un beso.
Hello, It’s been a while! Any kind of snake frightens me. Great shot of the black snake and well done for knowing what kind of snake it is. I should do more research about them so I don’t get freaked out when its a harmless snake. My first thought about the bird in the tree was Cormorant and if there is water nearby it’s drying it’s wings. Nice shot of all the birds around your feeder too.
All the best
Sonjia.
A surprise snake encounter like that can really get your heart racing! And the bird photo is amazing.
