This is a scan of an old photograph that my father has. It is of his great grandfather’s barn in southeast South Dakota near Flandereau. I’m thinking the photo is from the 1930’s. Dad has very vivid memories of it. I think I was in it once a long time ago. It has long since collapsed and there is no trace of it now.
oh … thats too bad
I really like old photos, especially ones that bring back happy memories.
oh, i love memories. write those down. one of the reason i miss my Pop – Pop, all his memories. born 1912. he was like reading a book or listening to a book. ( :
have a great week. rain here in VA today – suppose to all week. we are going to be very green. at least the pollen will sort of disappear maybe?!!?!?!
Wow, what a beautiful barn. Such a shame that it’s gone now, but I’m glad you have a photo to preserve the memory of that part of your heritage.
Looks alot like barns around here still.
That’s a great looking barn and its wonderful to see it in its prime!
I wish they’d last forever! What a beauty of a barn, esp w/ the work going on in the shot & the horses!
Thank you for joining =)
Love the old photos. It looks like it was in great shape then. : )
That’s a wonderful barn, and the photo is a real treasure! It’s great to see all the action in the photo. Too bad the barn is gone now, but good that you have the photo of it.
It was a beauty! I wish I had a picture of the old barn on the farm I grew up on. It’s gone now too.
Stoppin by from Barn Charm and this makes me want to go find the barn pictures I have from my grandparents farm in Saskatchewan! THanks for sharing!
Wonderful photo! It always makes me so sad to hear that ‘there’s no trace of it now.’ Such a shame.
Nice to have, and share, the old image plus the story to go with it.
What a wonderful old photo – and hay being thrown from the loft! It’s great that you have memories of this.

That’s a treasure of a photograph, and a beautiful old barn.
It’s a beautiful old barn and nice to have the memories passed down.
I always think I’ll get busy and scan some old photos. And then I sit down and blog. (So many wonderful things to do, so little time!)
Great old photo. Too bad there isn’t a trace of it left today.
What a great barn!
I love old barns, and I especially love photos from the 30s, my father’s decade of birth.
I love looking at old photos. It is a good idea to scan them in so they don’t get lost or fade away.
Neat photo
Very cool. Makes me realize how different the various regions of this country are.
I love this photo, the barn in it’s prime, the team of horses, and that hay being hoisted to the hayloft is great!
Sad that so many of these kind of structures are no longer standing.
They speak of our country’s history.
