Saturday I loaded up my brother, who was in from Corpus Christi, my father who flew down from Idaho Falls, and son SuperPizzaBoy and we took a guy trip to Bentonville, Arkansas a couple hours away to visit the new Crystal Bridges Museum of American Art.
It was the second trip for SPB and I. The first for my father and brother. I think they liked it. I know that I loved it better this time than the first time. The first time I see a museum I want to see every single thing. From then on I go for more of what attracts my eye.
(Maxxfield Parrish – The Lantern Bearers)
The museum specializes in American art. They have both great quantity and great quality.
(Alexander Stirling Calder – Stretching Girl)
The museum building itself is a work of art.
The museum was founded by a Walmart heir. Walmart itself is now paying for everyone’s admission. Priceless art for free, show me a black Friday deal like that.
Art for free!! Hey, doesn’t get any better than that and what a great looking museum! I really like the samples of the paintings that you’ve shown us!!A wonderful day! Sounds like you’ve had a great visit with your father and brother over Thanksgiving!!
I like art for free. Haven’t been to an art museum in decades. Does sound like fun.
i adore Maxfield Parrish .. i wish i owned a print of that …
Wonderful way to spend time ~ Great photos ~ ( A Creative Harbor) on Blogger ^_^
Thanks for sharing your visit to the museum. The building is pretty too! Have a great week ahead, Yogi!
Interesting post.
Wonderful post. So glad to hear that art is being made accessible to all. Thanks Wal-Mart!
Wow – that is a stunning place full of good art. And free! Priceless.
sounds like a great place to visit.
Looks like a great collection!! Boom & Gary of the Vermilon River, Canada.
It is a beautiful building! I remember seeing your first visit there. Imagine the wealth of the Walmart family to be able to build something as grand as this, stock it with priceless art work and then be able to support it without charging admission for visitors? WOW!
Museums should always be free. I love the Rothko painting and the sculpture. Art is so good for the soul, Seems a great building to house it in.
Incredible that it’s free! I love the building too!
I have to admit, The Lantern Bearers is my favorite piece in the entire museum. It just jumped off of the wall at me the first time I saw it.
We visited Crystal Bridges last February on our way to Arizona. It is fantastic. I love the American Art exhibit. And the grounds…..oh so beautiful. Thank you Ms. Walton!!!
Love museums A favorite ‘post” theme of mine
Not too many museums are admission free these days. The Lantern Bearers painting is quite unusual. I’m trying to figure out if it’s all the same person or multiple people who look similar.
An excellent black Friday deal! That building is gorgeous, and so is the work inside it.
