We are having a another sunny pleasant weekend in Tulsa. Son and I decided to go for a little walk on the Arkansas River near downtown.
We have some bigass trees in the River Parks. Son is going to tell on me for using the word bigass.
We saw the crane being used to build the new One Place tower downtown. The crane is supposed to be 325 feet tall. Hmmm, I was going to link to their web site but they don’t have one. Hmmm… Should I make one for them?
We saw a flag flying in the breeze and some fishermen in the river just below a low water dam. Hmmm… (Is that irritating you?) I’m afraid for their safety is all.
We saw a homeless campsite. Usually they are more discreet than this. What a way to live.
We saw some wilted flowers in a tree planted as a memorial. I’ve come across lots of things like this in my running, walking, hiking, geocaching, activities. Lots of sadness out there.
This is the plaque next to the tree. I googled the name. The only hit I got that come closest to being appropos was a businessman in his late 20″s who was murdered in the New York City area back in the 80’s. Lots of mystery out there.
I was taking a picture of the trees and the sky. I know, I lust too much after bare naked trees. This time one of the squirrel’s nest moved.
I didn’t have my good camera with me and of course no tripod but I think that the squirrel’s nest is actually an eagle of some kind. Maybe a bald eagle? (But probably a hawk of some sort.)
I’m not really sure. He got tired and flew off.
We ambled through the rest of our walk. We took our time as we looked here there and everywhere. We were a little tired. I’m participating with my friend Baloney’s Perfect Pairings today with the following verse.
The LORD is the everlasting God,
the Creator of the ends of the earth.
He will not grow tired or weary,
and his understanding no one can fathom.
29 He gives strength to the weary
and increases the power of the weak.
30 Even youths grow tired and weary,
and young men stumble and fall;
31 but those who hope in the LORD
will renew their strength.
They will soar on wings like eagles;
they will run and not grow weary,
they will walk and not be faint.
(Isaih 40:28-31) NIV (Thanks Bible Gateway!)
Many thanks for sharing your landscape..
I love your “bigass” trees..
What a good walk with so much to see. I especially like that first picture of SPB! 🙂
Whew! I’m tired just viewing these. Hahahahaha
The other day we were at the zoo, and I was looking at the bricks people purchased for via a fundraising effort. There was one that struck me. It just said, “In memory of our son Joey.” I cannot imagine having to buy such a brick.
That’s a bigass crane too.
How else to let go of sadness but to memorialize it for others to share.
Great post for the day! There is a lot of sadness out there, isn’t there? So many homeless people here in Seattle, so many scenes like you’ve shown here. They really make me appreciate my own many blessings! And yes, that is a bigass crane!!
Sylvia
So much to see – lovely nature, and a sadder side of humanity.
Thanks for pairing up today! I love your walks but something tells me it wasn’t really SPB’s idea. 😉
What a mild day it must have been – is SPB in just shirt sleeves? It was very cold here in CO overnight but the sun is out now sparkling on new snow. That is surely the pear tree planted in memorial – I come across these things, too, and pause, wondering.
Love the first photo
Greetings,

What a lovely winters walk, very relaxing!
What were those people doing in the water?
“Bigass” and “bare naked” in the same post?! That’s really naughty. Sad about the memorial and the homeless camp.
We’ve had nice weather for January, too. I keep expecting a big snowstorm, but none in sight so far.
Since SPB is tattling, I guess we don’t have to. 🙂
Those homeless campsites are popping up all over. There was one under a tree at 244 & Sheridan for a while this fall. I saw a fire going there one day and they were gone the next. Made me kind of sad … wondered where they had gone and if they had found shelter.
The eagle is awesome!
A funny and sad post. Good of you to share your walk and comments with us.
Thank you for sharing the verse and the pictures. What a wonderful day you had!
I love your humour, Yogi. You make going for walks with you so much fun…even if you did say bigass and you didn’t have your best camera with you. 🙂
It’s amazing how much of life you can take in on a walk. I have to rethink that oldie but goodie, “It’s no walk in the park.” Life is not always easy there. Clearly. Your eagle impersonating a squirrel was obviously avoiding the paparazzi and came out only when he was sure you didn’t have the good camera. He loves when that happens.
If that is a Bald Eagle it is a young one. Could be a Golden Eagle, Maybe a large hawk. like a Red Tail Hawk. Darn sure isn’t a squirrel.
These roadside memories all have stories behind them. Sometimes I wished I knew what they were. Wow, an eagle up a tree is not something you would see everyday.
Okay, I’m crying! I love this, so perfect. I love the photos of the crane, Pizza boy especially and the memorial. If that is not a red hawk then I’m guessing a Golden Eagle. One of my favorite scriptures and I love Bible Gateway.
FYI: I’m still crying you made my day I feel so inspired I’m ready to conquer the world or maybe just my corner of it.

I’m not sure I’d be thrilled with anything that I caught out of the Arkansas River. I just have childhood memories of the smell of raw sewage that used to be dumped into that water.
