Skywatch Friday – Where My Mind Still Resides

Sunrise at Orange Beach

Just letting you know where my mind still is. My mind is still on the beach watching the sunrise, listening to the wind and the waves.

Skywatch Friday

Due to a Google mishap I’m no longer at yogis-den(dot)com. They are making it impossible to get it back so I’ve moved everything back over to the www.crustygasguy.blogspot.com while I ponder what to do, if anything. I like writing posts but I hate getting under the hood and trying to figure out the nuts and bolts when things go wrong. So I’m thinking I’m going to try a new domain name registrar and get a multiyear term. I would appreciate any recommendations on domain name registrars that easy to deal with.

I would also say beware to anybody out there who bought their domain name through Google even if you have auto renewal. A bunch of the renewals are failing, even with current payment information, and when it fails your domain name is gone and Google’s customer service isn’t up to the task of helping you get it back.

Courting Trouble by Lisa Scotline

While on vacation recently we spent a lot of time on the beach reading. I put aside my regular books and read “beach books.” Courting Trouble is one of those. It’s a murder mystery featuring Anne Murphy a smart, young, single, gorgeous, red headed attorney with a shoe fetish living in Philidelphia. She goes on a trip out of town by herself for the Fourth of July but reads in the paper next day that she has been killed.

That piques her interest of course and she decides that she should stay dead for now and find out who “killed” her. So off the the story goes. It’s pretty funny actually all the adventures and misadventures she has while she recruits help in her search for the killer. She ends up using an Uncle Sam costume as a disguise for much of the book and she and the rest of her all female law firm dress up as hookers for much of the rest of the book. She gets “lonely” and spends the night at an opposing attorney’s place and then leaves before he wakes up but she can’t find her panties so that is something she comments on quite frequently during the book. She goes all over town I couldn’t figure out why she didn’t stop in at Target and get what she needs.

Anyway the book is kind of a lightweight and the plot is full of holes and anybody that has read very many whodunnits can spot whodunnit a long ways away but still the book is a fun read. I give it three stars out of five.

The book has been out a while and I picked it up for fifty cents at our local libraries bargain bin. It’s all broke in. The pages are sprinkled with a great mixture of beer, beach sand, and seawater so it is a genuine beach read. I’m putting it in the Goodwill bag unless somebody local wants it.

Our World – Kayaking on Cotton Bayou

On our recent trip to Orange Beach, Alabama we went on a little kayaking expedition on Cotton Bayou.

90400001

We picked out the kayaks, got life vests, paddles and a map and off we went.

90400003

SuperPizzaBoy really took to it and did very well.

90540006

He left the old man in the dust, so to speak.

90540021

Sweetie was looking good also. She always looks good, kayak or not.

90540012

The bayou was busy. We got attached by a pirate boat. The pirates were all yealling “ARGH!!!” but we got away.

90540013

Or maybe they are the ones that got away?

90540011

For some reason Sweetie had the map. How did she get the map. I’m supposed to have the map. That way I can be telling her stuff, not she tellling me stuff. Do you like the thumb action in the photo?

90540015

We pulled up on a deserted island for a lunch of peanut butter sandwhiches.

90540025

And here’s a YogiCam view of the return trip. Tell you what my quads were burning after this trek but we had fun.

Scavenger Hunt Sunday – Jumping for Joy

Well, we’ve been traveling and doing this that and whatever and I haven’t been participating in Ashley’s Scavenger Hunt Sunday for a few weeks and I miss it. So it is time to get back in the groove don’t you think. So this is this week’s edition.

Fun

IMG_5607

We went to Orange Beach, Alabama for vacation and had a great time. One evening at the golden hour we took the camera down to the beach and set it up on a tripod and had a blast trying out different things for family portraits. We had never done that before and it was lots of fun.

Arts & Crafts

057

Arts and Crafts really isn’t our thing but a few years ago for Mother’s Day son and I bought a kit to make a handprint for Sweetie. We also bought some extra tiles and rocks to bling it up a little bit.

Mother's Day Craft

It worked out pretty well. Sweetie was happy with it.

Messy

20100225_93

SuperPizzaBoy loves ice cream almost as much as he loves pizza. It gets kind of messy.

Blessing

Every sunrise is a blessing to me, and sunset, and everything in between.

Effort

Does lack of effort count? This is one of our utility workers hitting hit hard during some construction in downtown Tulsa.

ABC Wednesday – W is for …

If you are back from a beach vaation then W has to be Water!

90540005

We swam in it. SuperPizzaBoy is part fish I think.

DSCN0566

We saw boats in it.

IMG_5588

We even saw a few people even walking on water.

IMG_5592

And then way far off we saw some ghostly sinister shapes on the water.

IMG_5581

There were pelicans trying to catch dinner.

IMG_5612

All sorts of foolishness was going on in the water. Not all of it can be explained. I mean I could explain it but you wouldn’t understand it. I took 616 photographs on our trip, 282 of them have a “water” tag.

Our World – Back from Vacation

We are back from vacation. We went down to Orange Beach, Alabama for a week.

90400016

We hung out on the beach a lot. Some of us tanned, others of us got toasted.

90540015

We went kayaking one day. Nothing like kayaking through a busy bay.

IMG_5504

We saw some dolphins playing. That was quite a thrill.

IMG_5364

We witnessed some great sunsets.

Grouper Pontchartrain # seafood #orangebeach #alabama

At ate some really, really good meals. Really.

DSCN0564

And hung out on the beach. We did a lot of that!

DSCN0512

One of us went geocaching.

We also listened to a lot of music, visited with some other friends of Tulsa, and even made a new friend at the urgent care clinic.

Now that we are back, we just want to know when we can go on our next vacation!

Silken Prey by John Sandfod

Silken Prey is John Sandford’s newest book. It stars Lucas Davenport, star detective of the Minnesota Bureau of Criminal Apprehension, (“BCA”).  Davenport has his work cut out for him this time. Murder, child porn, and politics all mixed up into a first class mess that he has to untangle.

IMG_5374
(I love palmettos. We don’t have too many of them in Oklahoma.)

Along the way he has to contend with a  female bodyguard who invites him to bed, a couple ex special forces body guards who are not quite that inviting and a Minnesota gubernatorial candidate who will literally do anything to get elected.

(Convenient swings along the trails of Orange Beach.)

Check out Sanders web site for a better synopsis of the story. The bottom line is that this is a very good book, very readable, and not quite enthralling cuz at the end things get kind of confused and messy and loses its coherence. It is still a great beach read though. I give it four stars out of five.

(You should have seen how white I was before I got my tan.)

From the Redneck Riviera, I’m trying to singlehandedly keep all the sunscreen manufacturers prosperous. And failing.
