These are photos, taken by my Dad back in the 1970’s I think, of the Albuquerque Balloon Festival when it was just getting started and has now turned into a big international event.
We lived in Albuquerque back then and the Festival caused quite a stir. There were lots of fender benders all over town because people were looking at the balloons instead of the road ahead of them as they drove. We had balloons come down in the neighborhood. It was all very exciting.
I thought there was nothing more beautiful than all the colorful balloons in the sky. Now I understand the sky is full of them.

So maybe one day I will go back. Check out the Balloon Festival web site for more information. Let me know if you are going. Apply for media credentials. Tell me if you get them.
I’m linking with Skywatch Friday
Yogi, We were at the festival several years ago. We managed to get a hotel room facing the balloon grounds so I got to take many photos of them in the air. We only spent one day on the grounds of the festival. It’s crowded but worth seeing in person one time. The sky is full of them!
Hello Yogi, watching the balloons taking off must have been wonderful. They look so pretty. A great festival.
Have a happy day and weekend ahead!
Great collection of timeless images. Looks like a photographers paradise.
I’d love to see the Festival someday; we’ve been in Albuquerque several times, just never at the right one. Someday, somehow, somewhere I will have another picture to link to SWF…. maybe next week.
oh cool, looks like fun, there was one here recently but the charge was alot of money so we didn’t go…
So beautiful! So many beautiful balloons in the sky! Its too far for me. I would love to join in the fun!
Those are some lovely shots!
It really is a delight to see them in the sky and to see your photos. Quite beautiful.
awwww, I am dying to go to a baloon festival! (so far haven’t managed to go to some in a relatively close distance from Brussels). Your father took nice photos.
Your Dad’s shots are great. Maybe this festival has gotten too big. I’ve wanted to see it for years but know I couldn’t handle the crowds.
