Friday morning I talked son Logan into going on a hike with me to Tulsa’s Oxley Nature Center.
In the parking lot we spotted a swallowtail butterfly. Swallowtails move around a lot so I just kept taking photos hoping one would be okay.
Later on in our hike we found a doe and her fawn in the woods. They were kind of skittish and the woods were thick so it was hard to get a good photo.
And later came upon this armadillo rooting around for something to eat. It pretty ignored us. I don’t think they see or hear very well. Years ago when I lived in south Texas they got hit a lot on the roads.
And as we were leaving we saw this doe and her two offspring. I think one might be a yearling and the other a pretty new fawn. They ignored as well.
Here’s my hiking companion, son Logan who has started a couple classes in the local community college’s Paralegal Program.
I’m linking with Eileen’s Saturday’s Critters. Come check out it!!
Hello Alan,
Wonderful critter sightings. I always enjoy seeing the deer. They are so pretty.
The butterfly is a nice capture. The Armadillo is a neat critter, I have only seen them in Florida.
Logan sounds like he is doing well with his classes. Thank for linking up and sharing your post.
Take care, have a great new week ahead.
Does Logan ever look like you! That is cool!
I have never seen an armadillo! Too cold here without fur!
It took me a while to see the butterfly.
Coffee is on and stay safe
Que bello ciervo te mando un beso.
I like the deer shot. Nice sighting of the butterfly.
Sounds like a great dad/son day! Love the videos!
Now that’s something I’ve never seen, an armadillo but a nature walk is always refreshing.
A nice nature walk right there in the big city … those kind of walks are favorites in my book. We see armadillos living and “on the road” pretty often in Florida. We’ve been told not to touch them as they carry diseases (leprosy for one) … I am not sure if that is actually true or a folk tale — I didn’t look it up because I have no intention of doing so anyway,
You certainly had a great walk with Logan. I wish I could see an armadillo rooting around here. Very enjoyable photos and videos.
How nice to hike with your son and you saw some neat wildlife. Of course I love the deer and I like seeing the stats when I hike. I’m always shocked that I use so FEW calories though! lol Have a good week.
Looks like a peaceful adventure. Love the pic with the swallowtail and seeing an armadillo like that is amazing. Didn’t seem to care that you were there at all. I’m glad you’re cool enough to be seen with Logan.
Nice sightings.
