Here’s the biggest shadow I have ever photographed. The lunar eclipse earlier this week. I made the image small because otherwise it is just kind of big and blobby. (Blobby is a word here in Oklahoma, just so you know.) Did you get to see the eclipse. Did you get a non-blobby photo of it!
Here is a Lost and Found shadow. Somebody at the Turkey Mountain Urban Wilderness Area here in Tulsa had the good idea put a lost and found basket at the base of map stand at the park. I think the drilled hole shadows are cool.
And here is a trailcam photo of our backyard. That is Sadie the rescue terrier in the sun and I am in the shade behind her. Both our dogs are sun dogs. They love laying out in the heat of the day. Note the temperature, note the burnt grass. Here in Tulsa we average eleven 100+ days a year, so far we have had 22 and we have a solid 7 day forecast for over 100F temperatures coming up this week.
The mornings are cooler though so I have been taking Sadie for a walk. I love dog walking shadows.
Here’s a variation on a dog walking shadow, a picket fence shadow overlaid on a dog walking shadow. Who says I cannot do two things at the same time?

You have been having an awfully hot summer. I feel for you, after having experienced the summer of 1980 in Wichita, Kansas. My husband had an outdoor job that summer, too. Ugh! Thank you for the moon photo; our sky, as usual, was clouded up. Seems to happen almost every time there is a celestial event. Alana ramblinwitham

I love how you turned something as ordinary as a shadow into a whole collection of little stories. The lunar eclipse is obviously the star of the post, but I really enjoyed the smaller shadows too, especially Sadie’s on the morning walk and the picket fence crossing over it. There is something about walking with a dog early in the morning that makes you notice things you would normally rush past, and those long tree shadows in the greenbelt are beautiful. I also had to smile at “blobby” because sometimes the most imperfect photos are the ones that hold the best memories.
What a bunch of great shadows! The moon is particularly clever as a Shadow Shot! Sadie’s shadow with the grass made me take a second look, her shadow looks so much like Mickey’s, yet they look nothing alike!
My lunar eclipse images were too blobby for public consumption. I just deleted them and moved on to the next adventure. Some days you just gotta know when to fold your tent and move.
The colors of the eclipsed moon are lovely in your photo. The lost-and-found basket is a great idea!! I hope it cools down for you and Sadie so you can enjoy your long walks.
