Saturday’s Critters – Our Pets

A post for our pets.

Our female terrier mix, Sadie, in a rare moment of hanging out with her older, but littler brown brother Kodi the Pomeranian. Kodi is kind of a pill to have around and our vet suggested a female terrier mix who was bigger than he was. That is why we got Sadie and it was worked out wonderfully. Sadie is a little sweetheart and not aggressive at all until Kodi lunges at her and then she flips on his back and puts a paw on his chest to hold him. That has done wonders for his attitude. After all these months he is starting to try and play with her. So progress is being made.

One even recently when my wife was at an event at night, Kodi was all morose, walking around with his tail hanging down. I took my favorite throw and just put it on the floor by my chair. He quit whining and went over, laid down on it and went to sleep. He likes me okay but after he bit me early last spring and I had to go to urgent care and get four stitches I am very leery of him. I got a new knee in February and got strict instructions that if I get a dog bite to get an antibiotic right away. They said the bacteria will go the metal in my new knee and there could be complications.

Little Sadie is having a tough time this winter. Kodi has a thick enough coat it doesn’t bother him. Sadie loves playing outside but she gets cold and heads for a throw to snuggle up in.

And Lizzy, the sweetest of the three. It is hard to get a sleep photo of her because she always wakes up. She was fast asleep on the couch and woke up when I got close.

Our animals are such a blessing to us.

Saturday’s Critters – On the Trail and at Home

A robin I captured on Turkey Mountain Friday afternoon.

Another robin in the same area on a different pass yesterday.

Ducks on the fishing pond at Lafortune Park earlier in the week.

Two separate sculptures working together at the Scheel’s Store at the mall.

Lizzie the cat, grooming Sadie to dog in a tender moment.

Kodie and Sadie wanting in!!

Sadie on my lap while I was watching television the other night.

Finally a 21 second video of other critter moments during the week. Featuring the bird cam, a sparrow, a dove, an angry squirrel, and me and Sadie playing fetch. Yep, all that fits in 21 seconds so pay attention!!

Sadie the Rescue Dog

Sadie, the rescue dog. We got her around Saint Patrick’s Day this year and she is gradually settling in with us in her forever home. She is very sweet and loving but she doesn’t take any foolishness from our male pom Kodi. If he gets aggressive she just flips him over on his back and holds him down with one paw. It’s kind of hilarious.

Saturday’s Critters – Real and Sculptural

Here’s a real critter, out sweet Lizzie.

And another real critter. This is Sadie, our rescue terrier. She is very energetic and wants all the love. She is very sweet.

And sculptural. Somebody made an Adventure Lab geocache using some of the animal sculptures on Tulsa’s RiverParks trails. This is what I call the Bear Fountain. It’s a nice place to rest on a bike ride.

And a bobcat trying get duck or something. Very lifelike.

And some otters frolicking.

I completed the Adventure Lab. Completing it is its own reward!!

And here is a 20 second video showing some of the birds that visited my camera feeder this week.

And that’s a wrap. I am linking with Saturday’s Critters

Saturday’s Critters – On the Lake, at the Mountain, and Home

I went on a bike ride the other day. I saw this great blue heron and a turtle hanging out together on Zink Dam here in Tulsa.

Nearby was this egret fishing for their lunch.

An isolated American White Pelican was paddling around.

IMG_3739

I rode my bike over to the other side of the river and saw these geese wandering around.

Slim pickings on the backyard trailcam except for a couple of dog pics. This is our pom, Kodi.

And our rescue terrier, Sadie. Her tail is always straight up in the air.

With my camera I captured this mourning dove on the camera feeder.

IMG_3753

And a sparrow with a bit of fluff it found.

A house finch

IMG_3761

Another sparrow, tiny enough to sit down on the flat part of the fence picket.

I went hiking on Turkey Mountain on Wednesday. I heard all sorts of birds and even spotted some but I wasn’t quick enough to take their photo. Oh well, I saw this guy though out in the open and it was polite enough to wait for me while I got my camera, focused and took a few shots. Merlin and google images tell me that it is a Western King Bird. I had never heard of such a thing but there it is. Number 19 on my recently started life list.

Here’s the Merlin screenshots on the smart aleck birds that I could hear and not see.

And here is a short 57 second video of some of birds showed up at the camera feeder the past few days.

That’s about it for this week. I am linking with Saturday’s Critters.

Saturday’s Critters – Around the House

Sadie's first spa day

Sadie the rescue dog got her first spa day. I dropped her off for a trim and a bath. She seemed pretty happy when I picked her up.

Sweet Lizzy the cat is the queen of the house.

And a bunny at night.

DSCF0047

Some sort of bird, a grackle I’m guessing coming in for a landing on one of our feeders.

And a 53 second video on the birds that visited our camera feeder the past week or so. We have had tons of mourning doves, a few grackles, the occasional cardinal, some brown thrashers. Surprisingly, even though I am using the habanero laced feed there a few squirrels who eat hearty.

I aimed the trailcam at a hidden corner of the backyard and when I pulled the chip a few days later I found this image of a fox!! It is beautiful and very small. That pot is only about 15 inches tall.

DSCF0355

And here is our rescue terrier Sadie leaping at something. When we play fetch with a ball she bounds after the ball leaping in the air as she goes. She’s a fun dog.

My wife and I found this goose family on a hike.

IMG_3714

I think this is a yellow crowned night heron. I found it at Lafortune Park here in Tulsa. I’ve seen them along this creek before.

Here is Lizzie the cat. I am still recovering from my knee replacement surgery and I am itching to get back to yoga so I thought I would try an online class at home. Lizzie wanted to join in but wanted my mat. Found out that I am not ready for regular yoga quite yet. Fortunately there are challenging chair yoga classes that I can take.

And our sleepy little tiny Pomeranian, Kodi. He doesn’t know that he’s tiny is a problem.

A short 20 second video of a few of the birds from the bird feeder cam in our backyard.

Saturday’s Critters – Mother’s Day 2025 Edition

_DSC0777

We finally took our new dog, Sadie, the terrier mix, to a dog park. It had been rainy and cold and we wanted to get our vet to clear Sadie so off we went on one sunny afternoon. Above is my wife Heather with Sadie and Kodi, our pomeranian, in tow.

_DSC0772

Sadie loved it. She’s a social butterfly with both dogs and people. She was running here and there making friends with everyone. She was right at home. We kept asking her if she was looking for a new home.

_DSC0771

Kodi has always like the park but is much more reserved. This time, our poor little dog, got run over by another dog and that was it for him. We were told when we got him that he is a little dog with BIG FEELINGS, and that is true.

Sadie is making friends with Lizzie the cat. Lizzie insists on boundaries though so even though they may be together eventually we hear a hiss and a paw whacking Sadie on the head when she forgets the boundaries.

Kodi being cute one evening. He looks like a little bear cub.

At Brookwood Pond in Tulsa, here is a Mother’s Day shot. Geese and goslings.

Also at Brookwood Pond, I’m sneaking up on Great Blue Heron. All I had for a camera was my phone.

And at Hunter Park in Tulsa, another phone shot of a Great Blue Heron.

In our backyard an Eastern Bluebird visited our camera feeder.

_DSC0766

I attended an event at Turkey Mountain Urban Wilderness Area and afterward went on a short hike. I was going along and I could hear all these birds up in the trees, but could I see them? No!! I then I got to thinking maybe they are not up in the trees, maybe they are down below so that is where I started looking and I started seeing all sorts of little birds close to the ground. I didn’t really have a good lens for taking photos so these are highly cropped and thus a little grainy. Above is a Carolina Wren.

_DSC0755

And this is a Tufted Titmouse I think.

I guess that I am not as smart as I thought I was. I have walked miles in the woods over the years listening to the birds up in the trees and that is not where they were. Anyway, I finally learned something.

And Happy Mother’s Day to all the mothers.. None of us would be here if were not for our Mothers. This Heather with our son Logan and Kodi back when he was little.

PICT0214

And here is my favorite photo of my mother. She loved fishing and she was good at it. She had mobility issues so she didn’t move around very much but she could catch the fish. This was her favorite spot on Birch Creek in southeast Idaho.
