Something New, Some Comfort, and a few Details for Scavenger Hunt Sunday

1. Details

Boston Avenue Church

One of my favorite subjects to photograph is Boston Avenue Church here in Tulsa. It is a notable art deco masterpiece designed by Bruce Goff. Something about it keeps drawing me back. Something beyond their parking lot where I change into my running outfit after work on Wednesdays that is.

The thing about Art Deco is not just the grand design but the design details and my favorite are the horse riders done in terra cotta on the south side of the building. This is a testament to the circuit riders of the early Methodist Church.

2. Friend

Kid playing while his mom has coffee with a friend.

I captured this image at a local coffee shop. A child playing while his mother visits with a friend. Something that everybody needs, especially moms of young children, is a friend.

3. Comfort

Chrissy Hogging the Heat

This is our big ole Maine Coon hogging the heat on a cold night. She is gone now but she certainly knew how to stay comfortable. She was the Alpha Queen of the pets in the house. She didn’t take any lip from any of the other dogs and cats while she was still around.

I go to Houston every now and then on business to see my customers down there. Downtown Houston certainly has some tall buildings.

5. New

New, new, what’s new? Oh, I know what is new!!! At work we finally finished our new plaza area. It is very cool, it is a lot more open than the old one and has shaded seating areas. The smokers are not too happy, they have been banished across the street to a corner just outside the parking garage marked off by orange traffic cones. But you know, they could use the walk right?

The detail on that church is remarkable. Had a cat that used to sleep under our double barrel wood stove. Always thought she’d burn up.

At first I thought the church building was a Mormon Temple. That is a nice sitting area but once April rolls around, it will be too hot to touch those metal tables.

Great choices here. The detail on the church is really cool looking.
Loved your processing choice on the friend shot, it’s really sweet.
Awww your kitty is very pretty and looks comfortable there by that fire.
Those tall buildings are very impressive to look at.
Nice new spot at your work place. Bet it would be fun to sit and enjoy your lunch break there.

Fabulous photo of the building in downtown Houston. I love the angle. I have admired the Boston Avenue Church, but never got close enough to see the details. I am adding it to my ‘to do’ list. Great shots.

Oh my–what a contrast from that old wonderful Church building and all it’s fine detail–
compared to the modern plain buildings of today–
all are great shots–and right now I wished I was that cat!!!

I’m not following anyone else – the picture that caught my imagination was “friend” – beautifully done.
