Skywatch Friday – Changing Light

We are well into Fall and sliding into Winter. The days are still nice and some of the trees still have their leaves despite our stiff Oklahoma breezes.

Daylight Savings Time has ended so the sun is setting at about 5:15 pm. I work until 6 so I get to see some great sunsets late in the day.
HDRish Sunset

The Arkansas River reflecting the sky. A refinery is just to the left of the river. In the foreground is our county courthouse on the left and city county library on lower right.  I experimented with Picnick’s “HDRish” treatment to try and bring the buildings out of the blackness.

Have you tried any experiments lately?

Occupying Skywatch

Lots of Weather and Geological Drama in Oklahoma this week. Tornadoes, three earthquakes, and some much needed rain. The state tourism department, trying to capitalize on the moment, jumped on the opportunity.

Yesterday a front came through and afterward the sun was shining.

Meanwhile at Tulsa’s downtown Centennial Green Park the Occupy Tulsa folks were trying to dry their stuff out after all the rain.

Occupation Tulsa 1

They have had their own drama. The city has a park curfew from 11pm to 5am that they have decided to enforce and the occupiers have decided to resist.

What kind of drama have you had where you live?

Skywatch – Hot Air Balloon

IMG_6769

I was hanging out in the backyard enjoying the mild weather when a hot air balloon showed up.

IMG_6774

I have no idea why it was there. I think Curves is a fitness gym for women.

IMG_6775

I think hot air balloons may be the prettiest man made things in the sky.

Anyway, the Curves balloon drifted away as quietly as it came in.

I hope it comes back.

New Steeple

IMG_6183

A couple weeks ago a blog friend here in Oklahoma emailed me with a heads up that the First Presbyterian Church of Tulsa was putting up their new steeple in downtown Tulsa.

IMG_6179

I had to go check it out. For an economic downturn going on Tulsa sure has lots of projects going on. I try and sidewalk supervise all of them but there is only so much that one guy can do. So I need all the help I can get.

My friend told me that her husband would most likely be the guy at the top bolting the steeple onto its base. I think this may be him. I hope that he was appreciating the daytime moon while he was working. Actually I bet that he pretty much concentrates on his job and lets us desk jockeys worry about composing the shot.

This is from the church’s web site showing what it is going to look like when they are done.
