I was in Albuquerque last weekend and came across this roadrunner at a local park. It was a little shy and kept a constant distance from me and wouldn’t turn around or give me a profile view for nothing. I lived in New Mexico for years and I don’t think I ever saw one. When I worked summers in the oilfields of west Texas I saw lots of them. Of course back then we didn’t have smart phones snapping away at anything that moved.
I’m linking with Saturday’s Critters
Hello Alan,
The Roadrunner is a cool bird, always great to see one. I saw my first Roadrunner in New Mexico.
Sorry, it would not turn and pose better for your photo. Thank you for linking up and sharing your post. Take care, have a great weekend. PS, thank you for leaving me a comment.
They are so unique! I saw them when we lived in NM years ago and they really do run as fast as the cartoon roadrunner! Neat sighting!
Used to have one that would get up our back wall and look for lizards. That was years ago and haven’t seen one on the wall in a long time. It’s more common to see them now as the city has spread out so much their natural habitat is vanishing. They’ve been forced to move into the populated areas.
I’ve never seen a Roadrunner in person so thanks for sharing this photo!
I can imagine it running away from you very fast, hence it’s name.
Es un bello pájaro. Te mando un beso.
Cool photo! I haven’t seen a roadrunner in a log time
Looks ready to run!
I saw one, only once. They aren’t as common in N. California as in the southern part of the state, but they show up now and again. inaturalist.org keeps track of the sightings. It might be a different kind than this. The Greater Roadrunner, and I didn’t name it Greater!
Geococcyx californianus
Cool shot, Yogi!
I’ve only seen one once and it was running. The backside is better than no side.
Sort of the patron bird of travelers! I loved seeing them when we traveled in NM and Texas.
