Saturday I ventured back out to the Fair Grounds here in Tulsa to the State Fair to see the Oklahoma State Sugar Art Show and Grand National Wedding Cake Competition.
I have no idea if the cakes are edible but the decorations are amazing. I ended up taking 152 photographs of the event and no I’m not going to make you suffer through them. The skill of these sugar artists is just wonderful.
These are like wedding cakes on steroids.
I have no idea how one would have the patience and stamina to do all the detailing involved.
The creativity was pretty far out there also. But you know the cakes were not the most impressive things are I saw there.
I was blown away by the masks. I wasn’t even expecting them.
They are incredibly delicate. Earlier a motorized wheel chair bumped into a table and destroyed almost all the masks on the table. I’m sure that everybody felt terrible about it. You can be sure that I kept my distance.
Have you ever been to a sugar art show? I’m coming back next year. If you haven’t been yet this year, you are too late, the sugar art show closed Sunday.
Wow! You captured some that I didn’t see. I’m going to do a post later this week on the Sugar Art Show. Like you, I took over 100 photos of the event, but I’ll only be sharing a few of my favorites. We were there Saturday morning.
oh wow, those are all works of art … now i wish there was a sugar show here to attend
Wow! Incredible. The masks are something else! They remind me of our visits to Venice where there are so many masks for sale.
Those masks are truly amazing! And that cake with the calla lilies is unsettlingly realistic! I have a friend who teaches cake decoration and sadly the icing is not tasty. (She says you could eat it, but you wouldn’t want to.)
Those are absolutely amazing, don’t know that I would want to eat one — but then I’m not a sweet eater anyway, but they are beautiful!
Almost too pretty to eat.
There is something very Zen about spending so much time creating something so fragile that can be destroyed (or eaten) in an instant.
What works of art! They look too beautiful to eat. They all look like winners to me!
Wow, what fancy artwork! They are all winners.
I’ve never seen anything like those masks — they are amazing! Did the same artists have to recreate what they had after the table was hit? Gosh…. the cakes are amazing too…I’d definitely go see those if I were in the area.
I have always wanted to go to this!
I would love to go to a Sugar Art show, The masks are so beautifully crafted. Thanks for the awesome pictures. I admire and respect the creators for their great talent.
What a wonderful artistic show. All far too good to eat:-) I do admire people who go “off piste” in their hobbies/careers.
The sugar art is amazing! However, my main concern would be the edibility, because I adore icing.
Amazing photos!
Oh my goodness! How did I miss this?! 🙂
Amazing. And somebody just eats it! Bye-bye!
