A Good Day to Die Hard with Bruce Willis, Jai Courtney, and Yuliya Snigir
Well Sweetie and I had the best of intentions. You know the Academy Awards are coming up Sunday and I had Friday off and we have only seen one nominated movie. So lets go see Argo, everybody is going crazy over it. Okay we got to the line and I bought tickets to A Good Day to Die Hard with Bruce Willis. Hey, I didn’t feel like doing anything good for me alright. Can’t help it, I’m impulsive like that. And besides Sweetie didn’t seem to mind.
So the story, who cares about the story. Bruce goes after bad guys, this time in Russia. Really bad guys. Take my word for it. He gets involved in a car chase, the bad guys are chasing his son, and Bruce is third in line. The bad guys have an armored vehicle that hip chucks BMW’s and Mercedes out of the way like nothing. But they are smart, when Willis is after you, you best run, while you can. Bruce also takes on helicopter gunships, machine guns, atomic radiation. Everything the Russkies throw at him Bruce just laughs off. I hope that I didn’t spoil the movie for you.
This is Jai Courtney, plays Willis’s son. He does okay, but he is no Bruce Willis. He hasn’t got anything that Bruce can’t do one better.
This is Yuliya Snigir. She’s no Bruce Willis either but I didn’t mind. She has lots of talents that Bruce cannot do one better on. For one thing she is former professional chess player. Above is the first obligatory, totally unnecessary, cheesecake shot. The second obligatory totally unnecessary cheesecake shot is when a helicopter blows her skirt up around her waist. I am not going to tell you if she is one of the good guys or one of the bad guys but I will tell you that she has nice legs. I hope I haven’t spoiled the movie for you.
So I give this movie five stars out of five. Don’t worry, it won’t be nominated for anything, but it is a good flick.
Weekend Reflections – Honest Folks, This is the Way it Came
This took me a while to figure out. It is how the image came back from the developer.
It is from a 1970’s era 110 film cartridge camera that I brought back to life recently. The image is of the Blue Whale, a long time Route 66 roadside attraction in the Tulsa suburb of Catoosa.
Skywatch Friday – West Tulsa Sunset
The other day I left downtown Tulsa after work and drove across the Arkansas River to do some geocaching and I caught this sunset with my Ipod. West Tulsa is on the wrong side of the river and the railroad tracks. I was at a park tucked just north of a cement plant, next to some Section 8 apartments and in between two refineries.
Yep, I felt pretty comfortable there. West Tulsa is what made Tulsa the Oil Capital of the World back in the day and it is still the “soul” of the city. Sure we have an opera and two world class museums and all sorts of other stuff. The money came from the oil wells, refineries, tank farms, power plants, railroad yards, trucking yards, and oilfield fabrication shops of west Tulsa: the wrong side of the river and the wrong side of the tracks and the most interesting part of town.

ABC Wednesday – F is for Fiddles!!
If you are looking for Fiddles the Totem Pole Park in Foyil, Oklahoma a few miles off Route 66 is the place to go. You will find not only the World’s Tallest (not) Totem Pole but a collection of fiddles carved by Ed Galloway, the guy who built the Totem Pole.
And no, you can’t pick up and start playing them. Thanks for asking!
The Lightship Swiftsure – Seattle
The lightship Swiftsure is retired at the Northwest Seaport in Seattle. She was launched in 1904 and worked on the west coast at various places as a lightship for 56 years and was retired from service in 1960.
During World War II she worked for the Coast Guard challenging vessels trying to enter San Francisco Bay.
She is looking good and is still afloat in her retirement and is a National Historic Landmark.

We saw a lot of great stuff on our family vacation to Seattle last summer. We were at the Ballard Locks checking things out when a group of Standup Paddleboarders came cruising by. They made it looked very easy.
