Our World – The Prom
I’m kind of slow, I graduated from high school in the early 1970’s but this year I finally got to go to the Prom.
(for all you smart alecks out there, I am smiling. I’m very expressive you know.)
Of course it was SuperPizzaBoy’s Prom, but hey a prom is a prom right!
SPB didn’t really want to go but his mother talked him into it. Mother’s know best as a friend of mine put it.
Sweetie went because she was in charge of the food. I went because I didn’t want to spend the night home alone.
SPB started out in good shape, all tucked in and buttoned down. He checked out the chips and dip first.
The other kids started out a little slowly also. The girls looked very nice in their prom dresses.
Things slowly heated up. When Psy’s Gangnam Style started up, SPB couldn’t contain himself any longer. He loves that song. If you have not heard of it, count yourself lucky.
Things heated up rapidly after that.
Until everybody was fully into it. He was totally into it. Totally untucked and wrinkled and I don’t think his mother minded a bit.
Then a little rest while the King and Queen of the Prom were crowned and recognized. SPB and I left soon after that. He and will be back next year!
My advice is to not wait 40 years until after you graduate to go to the Prom. What is your advice?
Scavenger Hunt Sunday – from Legoland to Seattle

A few years ago we went to Legoland in California. It is a fun place but what I really liked was all the lego cities they had. You could lay your camera right down in them and get some lifelike shots.

We stumbled onto this building in Seattle while on vacation there last summer. I loved the windows in the ivy.
The Shack by Wm. Paul Young
So if God sent you a postcard inviting you to a weekend in a shack in the mountains would you go? What if that shack was the scene of a brutal killing of your young daughter? Would you go then? Would it make any difference if your life, including your marriage, was spinning out of control?
Well, “Mack” the protagonist in this novel took God up on his offer and went to the shack and spent the weekend with God. Of course, God is three in one, right, There is “Papa” the Father except God shape shifted to a woman for Mack and is a great cook, and there is the Spirit, whose form is an Asian woman named Sarayu and Jesus is a Carpenter.
Mack spends most of the weekend talking with the three forms of God and they discuss life in general, the relationship between the three manifestations of God and the relationship between God (in three) and people. I found that part of the book fascinating. I’m a Christian who prefers a simple faith and I’m not much of a theolgian but I thought much of what the book says is spot on. The main takeaway I got is that the we need to redefine our relationships with each other and with God in terms of the relationship itself and away from power.
The rest of the book is kind of a too pat story about Mack. Overall I gave the book three stars out of five. It is a good read but the story is kind of a support for the theology. The overall effect was good but not great.

Somebody vandalized Tulsa’s Cain’s Ballroom lately, with yarn.
See it? Here it is.
Cain’s was Yarn Bombed by the notorious Yarn Bomb Tulsa Gang.
Isn’t it awful?
Yarn Bombing is considered a form of Graffiti. I don’t find it offensive at all. I am not sure it will weather well though.
Have you ever seen a Yarn Bomb? This one at Cain’s is my first.

Hey, its ABC Wednesday, let me see, I live in Oklahoma, I work in the energy industry so this week D is for Drilling Rig. Isn’t it a beauty?
Ruby Tuesday – Finding a Car at the Boat Show
Saturday son and I went to the Tulsa Boat Show at the County Fairgrounds. I’m not in the market for a boat, I just like checking them out. Plus generally they have lots of RV’s and trailers to check out.
This beautiful Camaro was on display. I love these cars. I’d never buy one though. Can you imagine the insurance. If you want to buy it for me though I’d spring for the insurance.
Speaking of cars, did you watch the Super Bowl? (Wow I’m a silver tongued devil. How is that for a smooth transition?) I loved the Dodge Ram Truck Commercial featuring the voice of Paul Harvey. I think it may be the best commercial that I have ever seen.

And on the eighth day, God looked down on his planned paradise and said, “I need a caretaker.” So God made a farmer.
God said, “I need somebody willing to get up before dawn, milk cows, work all day in the field, milk cows again, eat supper, then go to town and stay past midnight at a meeting of the township board.” So God made a farmer.
“I need somebody with arms strong enough to wrestle a calf and yet gentle enough to cradle his own grandchild. Somebody to call hogs, tame cantankerous machinery, come home hungry, have to wait for lunch until his wife’s done feeding visiting ladies, then tell the ladies to be sure to come back real soon and mean it.” So God made a farmer.
God said, “I need somebody willing to sit up all night with a newborn colt and watch it die, then dry his eyes and say, ‘Maybe next year,’ I need somebody who can shape an ax handle from an ash tree, shoe a horse, who can fix a harness with hay wire, feed sacks and shoe scraps. Who, during planting time and harvest season will finish his 40-hour week by Tuesday noon and then, paining from tractor back, up in another 72 hours.” So God made a farmer.
God had to have somebody willing to ride the ruts at double speed to get the hay in ahead of the rain clouds and yet stop in mid-field and race to help when he sees the first smoke from a neighbor’s place. So God made a farmer.
God said, “I need somebody strong enough to clear trees and heave bales, yet gentle enough to help a newborn calf begin to suckle and tend the pink-comb pullets, who will stop his mower in an instant to avoid the nest of meadowlarks.”
It had to be somebody who’d plow deep and straight and not cut corners. Somebody to seed, weed, feed, breed, brake, disk, plow, plant, strain the milk, replenish the self-feeder and finish a hard week’s work with an eight mile drive to church. Somebody who’d bale a family together with the soft, strong bonds of sharing, who would laugh, and then sigh and then reply with smiling eyes when his family says that they are proud of what Dad does. “So God made a farmer.”

Scavenger Hunt Sunday – Hidden Edition
Time for another Scavenger Hunt – so lets get started.
1.Hidden
I’m totally into geocaching which, in a nutshell, is using a GPS receiver to find caches hidden by other people out in the woods or in the middle of a downtown or just about anywhere. I’ve found about 1200 by now and have hidden 29. Of course because of the chiggers, ticks, fire ants, and ticks I’ve had to go see my doctor a few times also. It provides much entertainment to his PA.
Go check out www.geocaching.com to check it out. Lots of tutorials and information on it there. It’s fun, its easy, but don’t forget the deet and don’t take any crap from your doctor’s PA.

The Tallgrass Praire Preserve in Pawhuska, Oklahoma. Near the home of the Pioneer Woman.

Our son, SuperPizzaBoy (in the red shirt above), has been in a comedy improv group for a couple years now. Every once in a while they give a performance. A popular improv game is chain murder. At the end there is only one person left.
4.Fast
A 1969 Jaguar XKE Series 2 Convertible is plenty fast for me.
5.Peace
This car belongs to somebody who was protesting the Keystone XL Pipeline Extension. Some of the Corps of Engineers hearings regarding the pipeline are held here in Tulsa.
