Scavenger Hunt Sunday – Cooling Off

The theme this week centers around cool and cold in this hot time of year.

Cool Colors

Blue Whale

Nothing cooler than the Blue Whale, an attraction on Route 66 in the Tulsa suburb of Catoosa. Especially since I shot this in December, and I like the picture upside down. I’m an upside down kind of guy is what I say.

Leaves

IMG_2974

These leaves are near Mount Rainier. It was very cool there.

Iced Beverage

While son is at #summercamp Heather and I are having our own camp #margaritas

Ah yes, the iced drink of choice in Oklahoma is a Margarita on the Rocks.

Cooling Off

Our ceiling fan on the back porch.

Raw

20100807_46

Oh yes, Ahi Tuna, yummm. And in my family I don’t have to worry about anybody stealing bites. Nor from my raw oysters.

Check out Ashley Sisk’s Scavenger Hunt Sunday. It is lots of fun, at least for me it is.

Scavenger Hunt Sunday – Cheerleader Edition

Camouflaged

Camo is an easy category for me cuz I’m an avid geocacher. My fellow geocachers are fiendisly clever. Fiendishly, maybe “Fiends” needs to be a Scavenger item, Whattyathink Ashley? Huh? Uh, sorry, I’m off task, time to either take my meds or get back on track. What do you see, Fungus? Maybe?

20100407_12

Nope, it is a geocache. See what I mean about fiendish. This is is downright evil.

20100407_13

Nutty

Nutty I’ll tell you wht is nutty are the bikers who ride the “FroFlo” trail on Turkey Mountain here in Tulsa. You can’t tell very well from the photograph but you ride your bike up a ramp and then along a tree trunk for some distance. I couldn’t even walk it but the “FroFlo” bikers do it with ease. If that aint nutty, nuttin is!

#turkeymountain #froflo #biketrail #obstacle crazy bikers go up the ramp and then lengthwise down a tree trunk. How do you do that without falling? #crazy #tulsa #oklahoma

Alike

Some people think that water is all alike. Boy are they wrong. The bottle shape actually changes the molecular configuration of water. A cooler bottle makes cooler water. I bet you didn’t know that did you? Wake up Sheeple!

And some people think all water is the same

Identical

Son and I have many similarities. Cheerleaders like to hang around him.

040

And they hang around me too!!!! Son and I are both chick magnets. These ladies are actually fellow geocachers. They have given up on the Dallas Cowboys. Speaking of the Cowboys they have a little crisis going on. Did you hear? Their 1990’s highlight tape is broken. What are they going to do? Their tape is broken and their cheerleaders are deep in the woods looking for tupperware. Its not like they have anything to cheer about for the last fifteen years do they? Sis Boom Bah!!

Cowboy's Cheerleaders

Jaunt

I also like to do trail runs. They are great way to run outdoors and everybody is friendly. You get to run, walk, and climb all you want. The rest stops have major food like hamburgers and baked potatoes. It is quite the scene, if a little exhausting. Unless you run it the way I do. I don’t get get exhausted. You want to know my secret? The secret is to start off slow and then taper off. Works my friend, you’ll get last place every time. Or at least you and me will be fighting for last. That’s part of my competitive spirit.

Post Oak Lodge 10K.jpg

These two guys manned a beer stop on my last race. I come cruising up and they said “Wanna Beer?” and I replied, “You got any other stupid questions, or is that it.” Or something to that effect. As a blogger I have the right to change the dialog over time. It’s in the bill of rights. Don’t like it, don’t talk to me, talk to Al Gore. He’s the one who invented the internet, not me. I’m just exercising my Constitutional Rights.

Scavenger Hunt Sunday – Jumping for Joy

Well, we’ve been traveling and doing this that and whatever and I haven’t been participating in Ashley’s Scavenger Hunt Sunday for a few weeks and I miss it. So it is time to get back in the groove don’t you think. So this is this week’s edition.

Fun

IMG_5607

We went to Orange Beach, Alabama for vacation and had a great time. One evening at the golden hour we took the camera down to the beach and set it up on a tripod and had a blast trying out different things for family portraits. We had never done that before and it was lots of fun.

Arts & Crafts

057

Arts and Crafts really isn’t our thing but a few years ago for Mother’s Day son and I bought a kit to make a handprint for Sweetie. We also bought some extra tiles and rocks to bling it up a little bit.

Mother's Day Craft

It worked out pretty well. Sweetie was happy with it.

Messy

20100225_93

SuperPizzaBoy loves ice cream almost as much as he loves pizza. It gets kind of messy.

Blessing

#sunrise Lafortune Park #pond #fountain #running #tulsa #oklahoma

Every sunrise is a blessing to me, and sunset, and everything in between.

Effort

IMG_0632

Does lack of effort count? This is one of our utility workers hitting hit hard during some construction in downtown Tulsa.

Scavenger Hunt Sunday

Scavenger Hunt Sunday – Hands off my Chick Dude

It is the weekend and that means it is time for Ashley Sisk’s Scavenger Hunt Sunday! So lets get going.

Vacation

IMG_5878

We’ve booked our condo on the Redneck Riviera so Gulf of Mexico here we come this summer! Ah, the sights, the sounds, the smells of the ocean, and nonstop chatter about Alabama football, Lynyrd Skynyrd, beer cans popping, and thousand and thousands of cigarettes! It’s all good natured and the people are fun and there is lots of space for everybody. We just have to get upwind of the smokers is all.

Food(s)

20100403_5

I love raw fish. I know that’s weird but I love it. And nobody steals bites from my plate, not in Oklahoma anyway.

Sound

IMG_0577

Eddie Van Halen playing the guitar, David Lee Roth Singing. That’s some sound. Beats the crap out of Lynyrd Skynyrd any day. In my opinion. No whining in the comments please, give it to me straight.

Texture

An old wall in southeast Oklahoma.

Anything

Groovy, Peace Baby, Mellow Out, Space Out, Hang Loose, Give Me Five, Hang Five, Free Love,  Hands of my Chick Dude. Sorry, Anything means Anything.

Ashley Sisk’s Scavenger Hunt Sunday

Scavenger Hunt Sunday – from Trios to Volkswagen Microbuses

After a few weeks of doing other things I’m back to Ashley Sisk’s Scavenger Hunt Sunday. Lots and lots of fun, but lots of work also.

Three

Three Trees on San Antonio River II

How about the reflection of three trees on the San Antonio River?

Hand(s)

Here in Tulsa we can beat anybody else’s hands with the Praying Hands at Oral Roberts University.

Fence

I found this old school rock fence at Tulsa’s first park, Owen Park.

Cuddly

IMG_6727

Sweetie and SuperPizzaBoy. I got lots and lots of cuddly pics with those two.

Sign

Drug Lawyer Volkswagen Van

A local drug attorney in Tulsa parks his drug van in a parking lot here in Tulsa.  For good or bad, here in Oklahoma we put drug dealers and many users away for a long time.

Scavenger Hunt Sunday

Scavenger Hunt Sunday – Background to Bambi

Time again for Ashley Sisk’s Scavenger Hunt Sunday. Every week she give five prompts and then we go looking for them to display on Sunday the following week. So lets get going.

Background

The young man in the Old Navy tshirt is SuperPizzaBoy and that is all I’m going to say about this pic.

Spotted or Dots

IMG_6271

Well, who can argue with Bambi.

Weather

IMG_4476

That is your truly. I got lots of snow shoveling in during the winter of 2011. Everybody in town did. That was so wrong!!!!!

Motion

IMG_4982

SuperPizza boy riding Cisco (who I called Frisco in a previous post) during his therapeutic horseback riding session Saturday. SPB is getting more and more comfortable in the saddle.

Sweet

Please don’t tell anybody because I’m in the energy biz but I’ve never been to a gun shot but I am now a devotee of Sugar Art. I attended the Grand National Wedding Cake Competition in Tulsa back in September and it blew me away. It is coming back to Tulsa on September 28 and 29 during the Tulsa State Fair. Let me know, and we’ll go together. What these people do with sugar will flat out amaze you. This year’s them is “Ballet 2013.”

If you are looking for a fun meme check out Scavenger Hunt Sunday.

Scavenger Hunt Sunday – Walking to Anything

Time again for Scavenger Hunt Sunday so lets get started.

Walking

This is a picture of me competing in a trail race. Something must be wrong because what I remember is head down and running hard and breathing hard running up a steep mountain slope. This is a picture of a fat guy on a walk to get a donut. What’s the deal you ask. I don’t know. By the way I’m obviously cheating with this shot. It was actually taken by blogging, running, geocaching friend Trail Zombie. Thanks a lot TZ. Ashley, pleeeeeze don’t kick me out of SHS, I promise that one of these days I’ll follow the rules. It’s only on days that end in Y that I cheat, but I’m trying to do better.

Yummy to my Tummy

IMG_7768

My wife Sweetie is a fabulous cook. This is her version of the the Pioneer Woman’s Scrumptious Apple Pie.  I think we need to have a throwdown of Sweetie and the Pioneer Woman. My money is on Sweetie.

Favorite Toy

14_12A

No although these women are attractive they are not my favorite toys. My favorite toys are cameras. And know something else, I don’t take too many pictures of cameras, I’m too busy using them. I took this shot while running the Route 66 Half Marathon in Tulsa last year. I posted it on Facebook and it went somewhat viral with several hundred likes. I used a recyclable camera cuz I tend to get fumblefingers and drop things when I run. Now I got a military spec gps enabled Nikon that I use on races.

What I did this week

trash

My original photo was a picture of 17 drilling rigs making drilling horizontal wells into the Cana Woodford Shale in central Oklahoma cuz I went to a conference that talked about the Cana among other things. But, the main thing I did was pack up my cubicle and move into an office. The first office I’ve had in 21 years and 11 years since I last moved my workspace. I had an incredible amount of crap. Old coffee cups and notebooks and office gewgaws. I filled up two of our office shredder boxes with all the paper we have and stuffed a bunch more into our big office shredder box. I had a bunch of stuff that I was going to recycle but it is incredibly difficult in our office so I just attached the bright “trash” tags and kissed all the crap goodbye. Don’t you judge me!

Anything

I now know that you can get anything you want in Seattle

This just proves that you can find anything for sale. I have no idea what Spotted Dick is and I have desire to find out. Ashley, its all your fault. You are the one that said “Anything” not me.

Scavenger Hunt Sunday, hosted by Ashley Sisk.

Scavenger Hunt Sunday – Is Hoppiness the same as Happiness?

Well it is Scavenger Hunt Sunday time again. It has been a while since I participated what with taxes and travel and such but I’m back.

Happiness

Happiness, hmmm, I have over 29,000 photos on Flickr and not a one tagged with happiness. Well, how about hoppiness? I got lots and lots of beer photos. How about a nice “Hoppy” IPA. That almost always makes me happy! What about you?

#beer at #local_table #tulsa

Spring in Black and White

Spring, black and white, that is hard. I can see winter and black and white but Spring. So I cheated I took a photo I had of some daffodils tulips (thanks dear readers)  at Tulsa’s Woodward Park and boosted the color and then converted it to black and white, and then screened back in just a tad of color. Do I pass or do I have to try it again?

Spring in Black and White -kind of.jpg

Family or Faith

Family in Seattle
Here is our little family in Seattle last year. SuperPizzaBoy, Sweetie, and me. And yes, I am smiling, or at least my version of a smile.

Fuzzy

20090524_19

SPB’s cat LJ is pretty fuzzy. I love how cats just decide to take over whatever they need for their own purposes.

Gathering or Provide

IMG_5751

I apologize for this picture of a picture. It is from my MIL’s family way back when in western Oklahoma. Her family has been in Oklahoma a long time. They used to have family gatherings on their ranches with horses and everything. I forget just when this was but it is such an Oklahoma photograph. I love western Oklahoma with its endless rolling hills and grass cut through by the creeks and rivers and the people are the friendliest, most hard working, and generous you will ever come across.

That is it, check out Ashley Sisk’s Scavenger Hunt Sunday.

Scavenger Hunt Sunday – Waviness

It is time for Ashley Sisk’s Scavenger Hunt Sunday again. Ashley for being a very nice young woman sure provides challenging items for us to go hunt. At least they are challenging for me.

DSC00016

Asian, I really had to did down deep for this. This is a photograph of my great uncle Rollo. My father tells  me that in this Photo my uncle is in Manchuria back in the 1930’s. The children are Japanese schoolchildren. Now, I don’t understand all that but there it is. Uncle Rollo was a naval officer who fought in the Pacific in World War II and eventually rose to the rank of Admiral. Next time I visit Dad I’m going to scan a bunch more photographs. He has pre-war photographs of receptions at various officers clubs in the Pacific from Manila to Singapore. The officers are very dashing in their uniforms and their wives are wearing very elegant gowns. Its a way of life that has disappeared I think.

R1-47

Wavy, what’s wavy, if you were expecting pictures of my wavy hair I’ll just let you know that I don’t have any, hair that is, especially wavy hair. This is a picture of son SuperPizzaBoy on the beach near Carlsbad, California a few years ago.

IMG_1518

Draw? How about some chalk art?

Knock Out Rose 2

Soft, nothing softer than a rose petal is there?

Humpty Dumpty - stone texture

Texture, Sweetie and I went to Eureka Springs, Arkansas a couple years ago for a weekend. One of the sights of Eureka Springs is a statue of Humpty Dumpty on a brick wall. And then I applied a brick wall texture to the photo. That is about as good as it gets in my artistic endeavors.

That’s it for this week’s roundup.

Scavenger Hunt Sunday

Scavenger Hunt Sunday – Luck of the Irish, Okie Style

It’s that time of the week again for Ashley Sisk’s Scavenger Hunt Sunday. There is a Saint Patrick’s Day theme to it this week.

1.Lucky

IMG_4485

Horseshoes are lucky right! Oklahoma has no shortage of horseshoes.

2.Irish

Mom

That’s my late mother napping while on a bus tour of Ireland. You talk about Irish, that was her. If you were smart you didn’t say anything bad about anybody in her family, Ireland, Idaho, Notre Dame University Football, Saint Joseph Montana, or the Democratic Party.

3.Daylight

IMG_6496

SuperPizzaBoy playing video games on the front porch.

4.Pot of Gold

PuebloWaterCarrier.jpg

Hey, I don’t have a picture of a Pot of Gold. I have a photo of this: “Pueblo Water Carrier” by Eanger Irving Couse. It’s priceless and has a few pots. You can go see it yourself for about eight bucks, six days a week at the Philbrook Museum of Art here in Tulsa. They got lots of other stuff, so its not like you get to look at just this one painting. Tell’em Yogi sent you. Hopefully they won’t kick you out when you say that.

5.Clover

SheepTrio

Clover, I don’t have any stinking clover. These guys ate it all. They don’t look a bit sorry do they. They just want more. For a bunch of sheep they sure are pigs.

Have a great Saint Patrick’s Day
