Scavenger Hunt Sunday – Luck of the Irish, Okie Style
It’s that time of the week again for Ashley Sisk’s Scavenger Hunt Sunday. There is a Saint Patrick’s Day theme to it this week.
1.Lucky
Horseshoes are lucky right! Oklahoma has no shortage of horseshoes.
2.Irish
That’s my late mother napping while on a bus tour of Ireland. You talk about Irish, that was her. If you were smart you didn’t say anything bad about anybody in her family, Ireland, Idaho, Notre Dame University Football, Saint Joseph Montana, or the Democratic Party.
3.Daylight

4.Pot of Gold
Hey, I don’t have a picture of a Pot of Gold. I have a photo of this: “Pueblo Water Carrier” by Eanger Irving Couse. It’s priceless and has a few pots. You can go see it yourself for about eight bucks, six days a week at the Philbrook Museum of Art here in Tulsa. They got lots of other stuff, so its not like you get to look at just this one painting. Tell’em Yogi sent you. Hopefully they won’t kick you out when you say that.
5.Clover
Clover, I don’t have any stinking clover. These guys ate it all. They don’t look a bit sorry do they. They just want more. For a bunch of sheep they sure are pigs.
Have a great Saint Patrick’s Day
The Dovekeepers by Alice Hoffman
This book tells the story, from the viewpoint of four women, of the siege of Masada, a mountain in the Judean desert, of nine hundred Jews, by the Roman army in the year 70 CE. The Jews had fled Jerusalem during a rebellion and they fled to a place that they thought would be safe.
The story is told by four women of widely different background. The thing that is common among them is that they worked in the dovecote. Which was used to provide both food for the community and fertilizer for the orchards.
I love Hoffman’s language and turns of phrase and the way she looks at things. It is a mixture of magic and realism. The story is wonderfully told although I had trouble distinguishing the voices of the women as each told their story.
The story has more than fancy language though. It describes the brutal desert and rough way of life in a way that made me feel I was there. She tells the story of how the Jew’s faith bound everyone together and how women had to carve out their own space within that faith for their special needs.
The book is fascinating. I give it five stars.
Weekend Reflections – Split Frame
One of my film cameras has the ability to put two small images on the same 35 mm frame. You shoot one image, wind the film a half frame and shoot the other. It drives the guys at Walgreen’s nuts. This frame shows two buildings set against a gloomy sky that are somehow reflecting blue skies.
Skywatch Friday – Running for my Life
West Tulsa, along the river trail. The smoke is from a grass fire. I don’t know where the jet is from but that is what first caught my attention.

A Fairy Tale in One Minute
Son, SuperPizzaBoy, has been participating in the City of Tulsa’s Clark Theater Yuth Improv Comedy classes for several years. He and his fellow comedians have come a long ways over the years.
Improv is hard. The players have to work off of each other and think fast. There is no memorizing lines or anything as during a performance it goes where the audience and the cast take it.
It has been great watching the kids grow up in the program.
We are so proud of our son. He gives it his all. The following is skit called “One Minute Fairy Tale” where he and a young lady had to act out a Fairy Tale in one minute, then thirty seconds, then 15 seconds, then 7.5 seconds. Then they had to do it in reverse. They didn’t know which fairy tale until they were on stage because the audience shouts out the fairy tale they want to see. The kids did great.
We like to see SPB do well, but we enjoy that he is happy doing this even more.

Scavenger Hunt Sunday – Wiggling Cookies!
It’s that time of week for Scavenger Hunt Sunday by Ashley Sisk. I have skipped the past few weeks and I’m back and boy did I pick a tough day to return. I had to cheat even more than I normally do. So let’s see what I got!!
1. #5
#5! What in tarnation does that mean? After much deliberation and thought I think it means the Five Civilized Tribes Museum in nearby Muskogee, Oklahoma. It’s a great little museum. I’ll tell you what though, I don’t want to make anybody mad but reading the story of the brutal forced relocation of the Tribes from the southeast USA to Oklahoma way back when is sobering. Especially after viewing an exhibit at the museum on the many Congressional Medal of Honor honorees from the Five Tribes.
It is a must stop if you are in the area.
2.Word of the Day
That is another one, Word of the Day? Well it is Scavenger Hunt Sunday so the word of the day is Sun. Sorry its a little fuzzy.
3.Sharing
Speaking of fuzzy, this is a fuzzy pic of SuperPizzaBoy sharing his performance of “Pick a Pocket or Two” during a school assembly a few years ago.
4.Wiggle
Wiggling is kind of like dancing right. Here is the world’s greatest nephew, Mr. Beans dancing with the world’s cutest flower girl at my niece Jillian’s wedding a couple years ago.
5.Cookies!
Cookies is easy. These were baked by the world’s greatest MIL Nana. They were incredible. They sure didn’t last long.
