Our World – Spring Break Side Trip – Crystal Bridges Museum, Bentonville, Arkansas

IMG_7987

We have been on Spring Break in Branson, Missouri. On our way back Sunday we made a little side trip to the Crystal Bridges Museum of American Art in Bentonville, Arkansas. They had a special exhibition, “William S. Paley Collection: A Taste for Modernism” from the Museum of Modern Art in New York City.

We love the Crystal Bridges Museum and we loved this show. I went overboard again and took photographs of almost everything in it. My favorites were:

IMG_7944

Two Dancers by Hilaire-Germain-Edgar Degas. Who doesn’t love Degas dancers?

IMG_7983

Iris by Auguste Rodin. I loved the gracefulness of the small work. I guess I had a dance theme going on.

Odalisque with a Tambourine by Henri Matisse

Odalisque with a Tambourine by Henri Matisse. I loved the lush colors of this work.

Au Cafe' (Synchrony) by Stanton McDonald-Wright

Au Cafe (Synchrony) by Stanton McDonald-Wright. I loved the colors in this one. McDonald-Wright was a pioneer of Synchromism where paintings are freed from anything related to the real world. I’m sure I am butchering the concept. Check out wikipedia

Crystal Bridges was a great way to close out our Spring Break. Back to the grindstone now!

Back to the Future at the Celebrity Car Museum in Branson

IMG_7906

Here in Branson we went to see Heather’s friend Raine who works at the Celebrity Car Museum. Raines is not only a car guy, he is quite an artist. He painted the Back to the Future themed mural above and almost all of the other art work in the museum. He is a busy man and generously took time to show us everything in the museum.

IMG_7907

One of the special cars they have is a 1981 Delorean DMC-12, one of six used in the Back to the Future trilogy of films. As Raine put it, Heather is sitting where Michael J. Fox sat.

IMG_7908

Personally, I think Heather looks better than Michael J. Fox ever did on his best day.

IMG_7914

Of course, we had to try the time travel part of the car to see if it still worked.

DSCN1637

So here is Logan present day. And then we dialed in four years ago, pushed the button and ….

Ooops, who shrunk the kid!!

Have you ever sat where Michael J. Fox sat?

Have you ever traveled through time? I want to hear about it.

Silver Dollar City in Branson, Missouri

DSCN1666

Here we are Silver Dollar City, the big amusement park in Branson

Lindley Creek at Branson

We saw some pretty good bluegrass music by Lindley Creek. I’m not much of a bluegrass bu I liked these guys. They are a family.

DSCN1674

Lots of patriotism at Silver Dollar City. Flags and bunting were everywhere.

DSCN1686

There is the kid disobeying signs again. Good for him is what I say.

DSCN1661

And we saw some things that we couldn’t figure out.

DSCN1683

Heather and Logan went on a couple spins on Wildfire, a high tech rollercoaster. That’s them on the far side of the back row. I feel so sorry for them. I’m such a chicken coward when it comes to rides.

Here is the rest of their trip. Sorry for the shaky video. I was scared just watching the thing.

DSCN1659

There’s Heather. She loved it and so did Logan. I love this photo of Heather.

DSCN1688

We finally found a ride I could manage. This rocking chair. I can rock the chair and eat blackberry ice cream at the same time.  That’s good for me!

Anyway, that’s that!

Here is a link to our last trip to Silver Dollar City which was Spring Break 2010. Logan sure has grown since then.

Skywatch Friday – Spring Break at Branson, Missouri Edition

DSCN1616

King Kong is on the loose again. This time in Branson, MO.

DSCN1617

For a small town in the sticks Branson sure has a lot of traffic!

DSCN1611

The family is on Spring Break! Lots of stuff happening with us so no staycation for Spring Break. Staycation mostly turns out to be nocation for us so off we went.

DSCN1625

We went to see the Titannic Exhibit. Very, very interesting and you will have to take my word for it since they insist no photos or videos. I’m going to follow those rules. If I was in your house I’d follow your rules!

DSCN1620

Then off to the grocery store. This scene lets you know that we were not in Oklahoma. No I don’t have a drinking problem. I drink just fine!

DSCN1621

Can you believe how cheap televsions have become. All you peeps from the 60’s and 70’s remember the orange faces on television? And how you would talk about somebody “They have a Sony.” Sony was the gold standard and the pricing was high. And now you can get a 32″ television for $150. Wow!

DSCN1619

I love grocery stores. Lots of photo ops there. Remember when Beanie Baby’s were all the rage. Pretty ho hum now, huh?

DSCN1623

And the tabloids! They are wonderful. Anybody out there detoxing their glands? Be sure and not tell me about it.

DSCN1624

You want a tip? I’ll give you a tip. The big attraction in Branson is Silver Dollar City and it costs $64 per person to get in. If you can go on Thursdays, Country Mart Grocery stores in Branson will sell you tickets for $30. Now that is a deal!! Dont’ say that I never saved you any money.

Skywatch Friday

I’m Running for President!!

HipstaPrint

It has been a crazy winter. Snow, cold, ice, then great warming up weather and then repeat. Whazzup with all that?

HipstaPrint

Just last week I found this Jeep who for some reason parked on the last snowbank left in Tulsa. The driver is probably from Minnesota and wanted to feel at home. Or it might have been the last parking spot in the lot. Who knows?

HipstaPrint

The trees are about to bud out. What’s keeping them? Do we have another snow storm coming?

HipstaPrint

I’m finished with my face for a while. I texted Heather last week that my face was pealing off onto my desk at work.  The divot the doctor left on my forehead is healing nicely and all the pealing from the Picato is about done. Do you know what this stuff costs? One box via a Canadian online pharmacy is almost $800. With my insurance  the cost was about $135. My doctor gave me a coupon. It took me a half hour to activate the dang coupon while sitting in the pharmacy but it was worth it. The cost is $25 a box with the coupon. That is one hell of a coupon is what I say! We don’t need no stinking Affordable Healthcare Act, we just need great coupons! But we should also remember that Experienced Colorado Healthcare Lawyer has said that in recent days people should be aware of coupons as they are made with evil intent like cheating and forgery. I’m running for President on the coupon platform. Can I count on your support?

Have you run across any good coupons lately?

Turkey Mountain in the Rain – Our World

DSCN1588

Saturday I went to Tulsa’s popular Turkey Mountain park and did a little hiking. It is never very crowded once you get a quarter mile from the parking lot but what few people there were seemed to vanish when it started raining. The temperature was in the sixties and I didn’t care about getting wet. I did care about lightning so I took the above shot and got away from those powerlines.

DSCN1590

The park has a surprising number of ponds (for some reason ponds are lakes on the mountain). Last summer they dried up. It is nice to see water in them.

DSCN1597

I spent about two hours and found three of the seven new geocaches in the park and then left. Two hours well spent in my book.

Scavenger Hunt Sunday – Blue Doorway Edition

Doorway

#blue #door #brick #tulsa

On the east side of downtown Tulsa there is a blue doorway. I don’t know who owns it or where it goes but lots of people show up to to take pictures of it or pose people around it. I love it.

Candid

IMG_7810

Saturday night and Logan is performing with other teens at Tulsa’s Clark Theater. Lots of fun and candid shots on show night.

Several years ago Tulsa converted their downtown mall back to streets with a traffic circle around a fountain. The fountain has taken dings from various drunk drivers. Lately the latest high tech drunk driver proof fountain, within the circle, at the square opened up. We locals are keeping our fingers crossed that it makes it through Saint Patrick’s Day. I’ll  keep you posted.

Look Up

The Arch in Saint Louis is something to behold.

Stuffed

Fat Tire 1

Because of Oklahoma’s strange liquor laws we can’t get New Belgium Brewery products like Fat Tire beer. So I stuff my shopping cart when I am out of state.
