Ruby Tuesday 2 – Boots

New Boots

Tada!!! My new pair of boots courtesy of the world’s great test MIL, “Nana.” I decided if I was going to get cowboy boots I might as well get something colorful. There is a lot to picking out the boots besides the design. Such as what kind of heel do you want? And also what kind of toe, blunt, rounded, pointed, just what? Plus the sole. Leather soles, due to my strange feet are a thing of the past. These are synthetic, the literature says that they” have superior resistance to manure than regular leather or rubber soles.” What!!

These boots are a fashion item. It has been several years since I’ve been on a horse. These are only my second pair of cowboy boots ever. I guess that if I wanted to I could claim that I am “country.” I wouldn’t fool anybody though. I’m a city guy. I’ve been a city guy my whole life, even when I lived out in the boonies. Way out in the boonies. I grew up with country people, shoot, my sister and her husband are country and so is their youngest daughter. I know how to saddle a horse, I like country music, I used to drive a pickup truck. But nope, I’m not country. From my earliest memories, I felt most comfortable when we drove down from the mountains and into Phoenix or Albuquerque. I knew a city is where I wanted to live.

Are you country? Do you have a pair of cowboy boots?

Scavenger Hunt Sunday – Is Hoppiness the same as Happiness?

Well it is Scavenger Hunt Sunday time again. It has been a while since I participated what with taxes and travel and such but I’m back.

Happiness

Happiness, hmmm, I have over 29,000 photos on Flickr and not a one tagged with happiness. Well, how about hoppiness? I got lots and lots of beer photos. How about a nice “Hoppy” IPA. That almost always makes me happy! What about you?

Spring in Black and White

Spring, black and white, that is hard. I can see winter and black and white but Spring. So I cheated I took a photo I had of some daffodils tulips (thanks dear readers)  at Tulsa’s Woodward Park and boosted the color and then converted it to black and white, and then screened back in just a tad of color. Do I pass or do I have to try it again?

Family or Faith

Family in Seattle
Here is our little family in Seattle last year. SuperPizzaBoy, Sweetie, and me. And yes, I am smiling, or at least my version of a smile.

Fuzzy

SPB’s cat LJ is pretty fuzzy. I love how cats just decide to take over whatever they need for their own purposes.

Gathering or Provide

IMG_5751

I apologize for this picture of a picture. It is from my MIL’s family way back when in western Oklahoma. Her family has been in Oklahoma a long time. They used to have family gatherings on their ranches with horses and everything. I forget just when this was but it is such an Oklahoma photograph. I love western Oklahoma with its endless rolling hills and grass cut through by the creeks and rivers and the people are the friendliest, most hard working, and generous you will ever come across.

That is it, check out Ashley Sisk’s Scavenger Hunt Sunday.

We Are All From Boston

The people of the city of Boston, and many others all over the world, are trying to make sense of what happened Monday. The trouble is that sane people will never understand things like this.

(Oklahoma City Memorial)

Those of us in Oklahoma, and New York City, and Newtown Connecticut, and countless other places have been left to pick up the pieces, bury the dead, and try to figure out what happened and why.

But still we just don’t get it or at least I don’t. Don’t be talking to me about original sin and we are all evil and so on. I get it, I believe it, but it doesn’t explain a thing. Yes we are all sinners but only a few us commit mass murder.

I’m not even sure that God understands. What we need is some comfort.

And some justice.

Finally, one down, the other brother captured.

ABC Wednesday – N is for New Orleans

This week, “N” is for New Orleans for me. I was in the Bayou City for a few days almost a year ago.

IMG_0326

I just loved the sights and sounds of the city.

IMG_0327

The great variety of people and the classic scenes.

New Orleans really is timeless.

There is a surprise around every corner and usually a party.

Our World – Faces of Geocaching

Sunday afternoon was a very pretty and very nice day so SuperPizzaBoy and I took off to Turkey Mountain here in Tulsa to do some maintenance on our geocache “Rock City” that I posted about originally in September 2011.

The trails were glorious. The sun was shining and the trees are just beginning to leaf out. There is nothing like the new green of Spring.

When we got the Rock City area of Turkey Mountain where the cache was we find a group of guys maneuvering their radio controlled vehicles around on the boulders. They were very nice and showed us what they were doing. Turns out they are here a lot and had found the cache months ago. They signed the log and otherwise left it alone. It always amazes me the variety of recreation that people find to do on Turkey Mountain. Geocaching, trail running, hiking, biking, riding horses and now radio controlled vehicles.

The cache was in good shape. Somebody reported that the recyclable camera I had planted there was full so I replaced it and had it processed. That was actually the second camera. Somebody took the first camera. So here are the photos of the people who have found the cache and took photos of themselves or others.

Rock City Collage

As you can see geocachers come in all sorts of shapes, sizes, ages, and gender.

Rock City Collage 2

Dogs and even a ferret.

Rock City Collage 3

They come in warm weather and cold weather.

Rock City Collage 4

They just love finding things way deep in the woods.

The Radio Control Guys told me that they used the last exposure to take a pic of their machines.

Have you ever hid a camera out in the woods?

Water Tower Wednesday – Robert E. Lee Hotel in San Antonio (Air Conditioned)

San Antonio Watertower.jpg

One of my favorite bloggers Daryl of Out and About in New York City often posts pics of water towers in New York City. New York City for some reason has lots of of buildings with water towers on top of them. I think they are totally cool and I’ve had a serious case of water tower envy because in Oklahoma individual buildings don’t have water towers. We have lots of other more conventional water towers but that is not what I wanted.

So I finally found one in San Antonio. So here it is.
