SuperPizzaBoy starts sixth grade. This is his third year at this school and he loves it. This morning though he is having a hard time dealing with summer break being over.
Breakfast was a little slow. Much earlier than he is used to.
Anyway he and Mom got off on time.
There are a few advantages to getting older. One is that you don’t have to be on the cutting edge of everything to be cool. In fact you don’t even have to be cool anymore. Uhh, truth is, you don’t have any choice, nothing you can do can make you cool. Cool! unless you happen to be married to somebody like that. Poor Sweetie.
Anyways, I was bee bopping through Target earlier this week checking out this and that and came to an end cap in the music section. There was a display that said “New Music.” It had Green Day CDs, “21st Century Breakdown.” So I said “cool”, bought it, and have been listening to it the last several days.
It surprised me. I think of Green Day as kind of punkish. Old punkers in their 40’s or so. They look the part. This CD, although it rocks is quite musical, in fact it is kind of “pop” in some tunes. It has 18 tracks and there is quite a variety here. I have listened to the whole thing a half dozen times and I’m not tired of it yet. The cd can rock but then it gets all melodic. I think that it is quite good.
Check out the bands web site here. It has cool stuff, except for the widgets bloggers use on our posts. None of their widgets work at all. Which is par for the course for band web sites.
The cd came out in May so its not like brand new, but I love it.
I give it a 3.5 stars out of 4. Which is good!
Anybody out there a Green Day fan? Tell us about it.
After I wrote this, I checked out the reviews. Turns out this cd is a rock opera in three parts. Imagine that, I had no idea. I don’t listen to lyrics, I cannot understand them anyway. (Drives Sweetie to the brink sometimes, this trait of mine!) The opera is all about how life was hard under George Bush. Ugh, I’m no W fan at all, but He’s gone folks. He is walking his dog in Dallas people. He is even carrying a pooper scooper! He is out of the picture. SO FOR THE LOVE OF PETE CAN’T I JUST LISTEN TO SOME MUSIC without some sort of political message. Ahhhhhhh!!! By the way, as a certified tax payer, and a certified Republican non fan of “W”, I’m willing to spend a little extra so that a former President of the United States of America doesn’t have to scoop his dog’s poop. Please!
Anybody else out there tired of the culture wars? What we can going to do about it? Class? Class?
The Yogis are a family of readers. We read a lot, we read lots of different kinds of stuff. We also like to go to bookstores and look at books. We don’t buy very many though. Why? Because they are expensive that’s why. Especially new hardbound books, The list price can be up close to $30. Sure you can get them discounted but only to about 50% to 60% of list.
Or you can buy paperbacks. Trade size paperbacks though are pushing $20 in some cases. Or you can wait and buy the smaller paperbacks. If your eyes are good and you are happy reading “last years books.”
I’m spoiled, I like to read newly published books. I don’t want to wait. I’m also cheap! How do I resolve all these traits? I use the library. In Tulsa County we have the Tulsa City County Library. Once you get a library card you can reserve books way in advance on their web site. They email you once they are ready and you go get them. Its easy and its FREE!!
Below is a screen shot of my current waiting list. (Sorry for the poor quality, I played with Paint and Corel Draw and this is as good as it gets, for me.) You can see I have about 14 books I’m waiting on. They’ll come in about one every two weeks or so. Every Sunday I get on the New York Times Web Site and check out what is coming up. If I see something I like I add it to my list. That’s how I come to find out about Richard Russo’s new book “That Old Cape Magic.” that I ordered today.
Final thought – You might as well use the library. You are paying for it anyway!

One of the oddest pieces of news I’ve read lately is that Oklahoma City is getting a statue of a nude Angelina Jolie breastfeeding two babies. Its kind of hard to figure out what it is all about because information is hard to come by. Many of the headlines talk about the statue being on the “Streets of Oklahoma City.” Apparently the statue is inspired by a picture of Ms. Jolie breastfeeding a couple of babies that appeared on the cover of W last year. The picture was shot by her husband Brad Pitt.
I didn’t look for the cover shot but I did look for the statue. You can check it out for yourself here. I don’t know anything about art, but this work doesn’t appear to be anything for the ages.
Despite what the headlines say the statue is going to be displayed in an art museum in Norman, Oklahoma. So we can drive around town without worrying about being flashed. Later on it is moving to London.
The piece was sculpted by a Daniel Edwards. He made the statue in order to encourage women to breast feed. So all you Okie pregnant women reading this, run on down to Norman to look at the statue in order to get your encouragement. Give me a shout back to let us know if it worked or not.
Daniel Edwards has done some other pieces according to the article in the link including a sculpture of Britney Spears giving birth. I haven’t seen it, don’t want to see it, but it is supposed to be anatomically correct. You will have to Google that one yourself.
So, I’m sorry, I don’t get the whole deal. I have seen all sorts of public breastfeeding. It doesn’t offend me or anybody else, and it is almost always done discreetly with some sort of drape and everybody averts their eyes and its cool. It has been going on for years in Oklahoma without any help from Hollywood actresses, their husbands, and flaky sculptors.
So I don’t think the statue is a big deal at all. What do you think?

I just finished this book. It is a murder mystery starring Kathryn Dance, a California Bureau of Investigation investigator who is trained in detecting deception. She is also very hot hot and has a couple of adorable children.
The story is set in Carmel, California a beautiful spot with a lot going on, most of it suspicious. Roads being built in environmentally sensitive areas, a desalinazation plant, nuclear power plants, a mercy killing at the local hospital, and murders foretold by mysterious roadside crosses. All this is being reported by blogger, Jim Chilton on the Chilton report. It takes Ms. Dance a little time to figure out who is lieing a like a rug and who is telling the truth, but she figures it out in the end. If you are a crook don’t let her get a baseline on you, she’ll nail you.
This book has lots of twists and turns and I enjoyed it immensely. I give it 3 stars out of 4.
I went on a four mile run on the Arkansas River here in Tulsa last Monday. It about killed me. It was close to 100 degrees. The sun was out even after work. At least it was breezy. I came to a fountain on the river where and caught some droplets. I also caught a photograph.
The reflections and the refractions made the sun look even bigger. But at least I was cooler.
Wednesday night Sweetie and I went bike riding. It was still warm, but not as bad.

Last night Sweetie and I went bike riding afer stashing SuperPizzaBoy and his buddy Nicholas playing with the Wii at Nana’s house. We got off to a late start and only did about 13 miles. I had my camera but I didn’t take too many pictures. Sweetie will leave me if dally, so best just to keep moving.
The end of our ride was a loop around Hunter Park in South Tulsa. The newly opened dog park was there and it was busy!
They have two enclosures. Pictured is the large dogs, off to the left, out of the picture, is one for small dogs. Sweetie and I agreed that we are going to grab our two mutts, Ginger and Abigail, and Nana’s dog, Fiona and take them. This looks like great fun.
Is there anybody out there familiar with dog parks? If so, please tell us a little something about them. They look like a blast.
Speaking of dogs, I found the following while running on the river earlier this week. Tulsa is rebuilding many of the river trails and I’m glad they are thinking of our four legged friends. I think this is a wonderful idea. I had never seen anything like that.

The Yogis went to see G-Force Sunday afternoon. It is about an elite force of guinea pigs who save the world from (Spoiler ahead) certain destruction. It may be the funniest movie I have seen in a long time. I rate it 3.5 stars out of 4. Its not just a kids movie that the parents will like. It is a movie that parents will like without the kids.
Go see the web site. It has trailers and games and is a lot of fun.
Saturday afternoon I went geocaching. I wanted to find five. The first one was a mystery cache named “That’s Just Rid(dle)iculous!!!” by M 5. A mystery cache is one where you have to figure out what the coordinates are. I have a few that I’ve put out myself. This one is a devilish little puzzle.
