I Got a Major Award!!

Hey, I got a package from Amazon! I told my son that I won a major award!! I lied and told him that it said frajili on the cover.

Logan said, so you got a leg lamp?

20181202-163219-5

What, no!! I got something better!!

I got a trail cam!! True confessions, can a major award be something you bought for yourself?

DSCF0006

So I installed the 47 batteries, configured all the 94 settings and put it on a tripod to face one of Heather’s bird feeders….. No birds, but lots of crickets!!

DSCF0018

So I pivoted it to look at Heather’s other feeder. I sat outside with my book and my iphone. I played wordle, made an instagram post, read a chapter. And the whole time a flock of cardinals was flocking the feeder. And I thought oh boy, I got a bunch of bird pics. So I went to check it out.

DSCF0009

And I got this old boomer guy.

DSCF0018

I got my other gadget out and flew it front in front of the new gadget and it got picked up.

Right back at you loser trailcam!!

So, do I own my gadgets, or do they own me?

Shameful or What?

Saturday afternoon, the weather said 91F, my car said 100F. Me and Logan need to get some exercise but he doesn’t handle the heat to well and he is still nursing his ankle. So I said, “Hey, you want to do go mall walking Buddy?” He kind of did the “Sure Dad, and so off we went.

When is Sears ever going to learn about merchandising?

The plan was to park at the upper floor of Sears at one end and walk on down to Macy’s and back while going through the two big stores in the middle, J.C. Penney’s and Dillards.

IMAG0030

Logan couldn’t get out of Sears fast enough.

We weren’t really prepared, neither one of us was wearing Hush Puppy’s  for instance.

IMAG0031

Red Cross was there taking people’s blood.  I used to give blood many moons ago but things got worse and worse. One time they backflowed the heparin into my arm. Now that was painful. The last time I gave blood my wife had to come get me. So sorry guys. You can’t have my blood today. Logan didn’t feel like it either.

IMAG0032

Outside Eskimo Joes. If you are from Oklahoma you have probably heard of them. It is a restaurant that also sells a lot of clothes. I bought a nice Route 66 themed shirt on sale. The lady asked me if I would like to join their club. No thanks, last time I was here was in 1992.

IMAG0035

I think it was in Penney’s, I offerred to be Logan a Cars themed back pack. He didn’t seem that that would be okay for a high school senior. Besides his Mom does all his school shopping.

IMAG0036

The food court. Neither Logan can stand loud crowd noises. So no thanks, we’ll go elsewhere.

a IMAG0037

Macy’s had a great dish display.

IMAG0039

The old carousel. Not the same one as eon’s ago but he rode one just like it around and around and around.

IMAG0040

We were walking not shopping but this window scared me. Those super heroes look pretty angry to me.

IMAG0041

And what is up with this. Since when is ice cold equal to 37 degrees. For pure water it is 32 degrees. For sugar water it is probably a lot less than that is what I say.

a IMAG0047

What is up with all the hat stores. I have never actually seen anybody buy a hat in one of those stores. What is up with that?

IMAG0048

And what is up with all the sports logo merchandise? The University of Oklahoma, Okalahoma State, it just flies off the shelves. I’ll tell you though that one good thing about being a Dallas Cowboy fan is that they discount the merchandise pretty heavily about three games into the season.

a IMAG0049

At about 75% of the way through the mall. I’m getting kind of tired of it all. But the AC is working great.

IMAG0050

Logan outside the Apple Store. He is an Apple man through and through. I’m cheap, I have an Ipod touch and an Android phone. I can change the battery for $7 and have a big old cheap 32 Gig memory chip to help out the 16G built in. Try that with your Iphone.

IMAG0052

Logan and his cool new friends. Say goodbye dude, we have to go.

About 2.25 miles and DON’T YOU JUDGE ME!!!

Our World Tuesday – Crashing a Pool Party

This past weekend we ventured out to the big skies of western Oklahoma.  We had lots of fun but let me tell you about one thing that happened. And I swear that it all happened just like I say below, more or less.

DSCN4168

We drove a long ways down a dirt road. A red dirt road. We have lots of red dirt in Oklahoma, and it doesn’t wash off.

_DSC0196

And then we turned off the dirt road and made our own road. You know why….??

_DSC0208

To crash a pool party!!!

_DSC0211

Hmmm, have you ever felt not really totally welcome at a party?

_DSC0223

So rather than jump in, we started taking pictures. Here is Sue Carol and Glenn.

_DSC0225

And here is Logan, Nana, and Heather.

_DSC0254

Well here is….well here is trouble is what this is: Sue Carol, Heather, Nana, and Cheri Lou (aka the ring leader.)

_DSC0207

And here is the ring leader with her husband Joe. Everything was going along great and then…

_DSC0206

This happened!! Whoa, slow down guys. I know I told you guys to act like you like each other. But hey, slow down I said. Easy!

_DSC0198

Things happened fast after that. This one stomped off first.

_DSC0243

And then the rest of herd stampeded off. Who knew that cows could be such prudes.

_DSC0279

And here is Juliette leading off Roscoe, “…in front of a child..” Juliette was heard muttering. You know, when the donkeys shun you, it must be bad.

_DSC0234

But we kept on clicking. With all the rain at least they didn’t leave a cloud of dust.

And I swear this all happened just like I said, more or less.

Snow Day

DSCN3078

Well it is Saturday and it is a snow day at the Bates household. We are weenies weatherwise here in Tulsa. I don’t think it snowed more than two inches all day long but we didn’t go anywhere. Tulsa is just now set up very well for bad weather. I’m pretty confident that I can drive safely but many of my fellow Okies just refuse to accept that bad weather should change the way they drive.

DSCN3079

It was pretty snowy up and down the street. And my thumb is still skin colored as you can see.

DSCN3077

I love taking pictures of lawn ornaments when there is snow.

DSCN3083

I had my favorite snow footgear. My insulated crocks. They are very warm and cozy and I can unsnap the liner and throw in the washer when it is dirty. Of course I haven’t done that yet. I’ve only had them  for ten years so check back next year. What!

DSCN3085

My obligatory macro pics. I’m not much of macro photographer. Of course I’m not much of any type of photographer. I’m much more comfortable with being called a picture taker. Most photographers would be much more comfortable calling me something besides a photographer also. So it is a win-win. Especially for those photographers who don’t like thumbs in the pics. We picture takers just take that in stride.

I was #Spoiled by Heather for breakfast this morning. Gluten free pancakes, homemade blueberry sauce, eggs, and bacon

On snow days you eat good. Heather cooked this for my second breakfast and made a great stew for dinner. I contributed also, she cooked and I ate. We make a great team.

DSCN3087

This is Abigail. Don’t feel sorry for her, she doesn’t want in, she wants somebody to come out and play with her.

DSCN3082

Here is the obligatory snow shoveling selfie, complete with some more thumb. No extra charge. No charge for the big ole double chin either. I read that on selfies you are supposed to stick your chin out to avoid big double chins. Just think how many chins I would have if I hadn’t done that. Do you like my new tortoise shell glass frames. I like them. Everybody else goes on and on about how they like them in a manner that makes me think that maybe they don’t like them. You can also see my deviated septum. An old baseball injury from school. Oh well, so much for this.

DSCN3093

This is just to prove that I shoveled the driveway. Not too many people do that in the neighborhood. I don’t know why. My next door neighbor does a good job though.

House - Impressions - Swirly Strokes III

And here is the front of the house. Snow has its uses. I think the whole family enjoyed the snow day.

New Member of the Family

We have somebody new in the family. He hangs out in the back yard. He came from Colorado.

IMG_20150111_114907

He is constantly shushing everybody especially our noisy dogs. They love going into the back yard and updating their barkbook status and visiting with all their friends. Talk about yappy dogs, that is ours.

IMG_20150111_114847

The new guy or gal didn’t come with a name. I’ve thought about Charles Barkley or Tree Guy or Tree Gal. I’ve thought about Sh’Bark. Nothing really sounds good. How about you? Do you have any ideas?

Take your time, I don’t think he is going anywhere.

Sunday Cold Weather Dog Fashions

It has been unseasonably chilly here in Oklahoma so we have resorted to scarves for our dogs

Dogs with Scarves

Abby our white Shih Tzu mix (all our dogs are basically ungrateful rescue dogs) was really rocking Heather’s purple scarf. Ironic as Abby is impervious to cold. She is ready to go out anytime and update her barkbook status with the neighbors. Ginger our Dachsund mix is only warm on one day all year long, July 4th, and shivers the rest of the year. She thinks she needs more than Heather’s scarf. Rascal our black Pomeranian mix wants something different besides my dull scarf.

Have you tried helping your dogs cope with winter cold with scarves. Our experiment didn’t work out well at all.

A Bike Ride and Second Thoughts about Computer Designed Buildings

DSCN2310

Last Friday I took the day off and Heather and I went for a bike ride on Tulsa’s Arkansas River Trails. Of course I had to take the selfie before we took off. Notice that the strap that holds the helmet on my head also packs up my double chins pretty well.

DSCN2318

This is a YogiCam shot showing Heather on the right and a showoff zooming by with no hands on the handlebars. What do you think about guys like that. Personally I’m mad I can’t do it. Of course I’ve never tried it either.

DSCN2327

Ripping by the University Club apartments. I should have slowed down and took a better picture they are semi-famous. It was the first building ever designed with a computer. It did two years of calculations in 24 minutes. I don’t where we went wrong personally but things have gone the other way around. For example with PowerPoint you can take you days to put together a presentation that should take only an hour to put together. We’ve lost our way somewhere. The other thing that it is famous for is that a former resident is serving 25 years for pushing her husband out a window from their 17 story apartment. I don’t know about you but that doesn’t say much for computer designed buildings is what I think.

DSCN2331

Here are some other apartments further up the river. No murders here that I know about.

DSCN2353

And then we headed back to the car so we could go pick up the kid at school.

Have you been on a bike ride lately? You don’t live in a computer designed building do you? With a volatile spouse? On a high floor? Poor you.
