Skywatch Friday – First Ride of the Year

Last Saturday during a cool morning with a chilly breeze  Logan had his first horseback ride of the year at All-Star Therapy Group in Ramona up in Pioneer Woman country north of Tulsa. What with finals last year and Christmas, and his rehearsal and performance schedule in the play he was in we hadn’t been.

Logan All Star After Topaz Glow Graphic II

Bob, the guy that runs the place just let Logan and the Cisco run around and around under the big Oklahoma sky. Both the kid and the horse had some pent up energy so they got to work it off. Logan had a big grin on his face the whole time. Good times when the kid grins. You parents out there know what I’m talking about.

Wolf Moon

#moon #fullmoon #canonsx40hs #oklahomaskies #myoklahoma

We had a really nice moon the other night so I grabbed my Canon SX40HS SuperZoom and went out there and superzoomed it. Not knowing much about I was trying the Aperture Priority settings, holding it in my hand,  and not getting much of anywhere with it. A bunch of fuzzy wuzzy blobs in the sky. So I went inside and googled “How to take pictures of the moon with the Canon SX40HS” and I found a video.

It’s by an English chick and she said to just use the Auto setting but use a tripod. So that was what I did. I was way superzoomed and even using the timer and the tripod the image was  moving around but I did get lucky with one shot. So I’m all excited about the camera again. I just need to be checking the English chick’s videos on the camera. She has dozens of them covering all aspects of the camera.

I posted the photo on Instagram cuz I was kind of proud of it and people were nice and all but some guy got on there and accused me of stealing the photo from him. Like, that got my righteous ire up and going. So I blocked and reported him as Inappropriate. That’ll teach him.

My friend Tom, the great hunter and outdoorsman, told me that the January full moon is called the Wolf Moon. And turns out it is true. At least according to the Farmers Almanac and they are never wrong are they? I love the name. So I’ve been a Wolf Moon shooting fool.

This grainy pic is from my Nikon and it shows a faint Wolf Moon over my favorite place in Tulsa, Turkey Mountain. I probably need to see what the English chick says about my little Nikon.

And this grainy photo of the Wolf Moon is from last night and it is from the top of Turkey Mountain looking east over south Tulsa. So it is the companion pic to the one above.  I have taken to running at night on the trails of Turkey Mountain once a week or so with a group of people. We run with headlights and it takes a little getting used to. You definitely have to keep your eyes on the ground. I’m one of the older and lots slower guys and they are nice and wait for me as I pick my around the rocks and roots. I haven’t fallen or sprained anything yet but I’ve stumbled a few times.  I’m about at the point where I’m ready to go by myself a time or two up on the mountain. (Shhhhhh, don’t tell Heather!!! She wouldn’t be happy by that plan.)

The “Mayor” of Turkey Mountain and fellow blogger and geocacher, Trailzombie wrote a post on his blog of our adventure on Turkey Mountain. Check it out here.

So, that is about it for today and what I want to know are two things.

One, where do you to learn how to use your camera?

Second, do you have any pics of the Wolf Moon.

And third, has anybody accused you of stealing their photos?  How did you respond. You only have to answer that if you are innocent.  Or you can confess if you want. We are all about forgiveness on Yogi’s Den.

Timeless Sky

Woolaroc Sky Tree - Paint Shop

Over Thanksgiving my brother Bob came up from Corpus Christi and so he, Logan, and I went to Woolaroc for an afternoon. Woolaroc is oilman Frank Phillips old ranch and private museum up in Pioneer Woman country of Osage County. Woolaroc is a throwback to the 1920″s with rock buildings and barns and old craggy trees like the one above. I can’t get enough of it. This old tree is growing up right by the museum.

And…. in a totally non-related matter….

Best Christmas Pageant Ever Poster

Logan auditioned for and got a small part in Clark Theater’s “The Best Christmas Pageant Ever.” He, and the rest of the cast and crew have been working hard in rehearsals and their debut is Thursday. We are very excited for him. There is a bunch of family coming to see the production on Saturday and Heather and I will be seeing lots of the play in the coming week and a half. The production is almost all sold out. We are very glad to see this. The city almost succeeded in shutting the theater down but we got one more year and then we’ll see next year.

Here is Heather and Logan at city hall. Just goes to show that sometimes you can win fighting city hall.

So have you ever been on a protest at City Hall?

Skywatch Friday – Thanksgiving

Thanksgiving Skywatch

It is Thanksgiving. My brother Bob drove up from Corpus Christi to spend the holiday with us. My dad decided that traveling during the peak air travel time of the year was too hard so he is having Thanksgiving with friends of his in Idaho. So we are going to be a small group. Heather, Logan, brother Bob, and Heather’s mom, Nana.

Still we will have a good time and remember those who are no longer with us and who can’t be with us. Eat some great food and watch the Dallas Cowboys and we’ll be thankful that we we are all together. Well, I’ll be watching the Cowboys.

Skywatch Friday – Sunshine at the River Parks

River Parks Trees Topaz Cave Dweller

It is cold, windy, and miserable right now but just before my run Saturday with a friend, it was warm, sunny, and nice. What a difference one cold front can make!

I’m sure you notice that I’m cheating with the photo. I’m using the Topaz Impressions program which converts photos over to various styles of painting. So this is what the “Cave Art” style looks like. Sorry, SOOC is so nice but I love tinkering.

So do you like tinkering with photos? Or do you like SOOC?
