A Sidewalk Garden in Tulsa’s East Village Neighborhood

Downtown Sidewalk Greenery

I went on a walk at noon Monday east of downtown Tulsa to the East Village area to see what was new and I found this sidewalk garden. I love it. It is so luxuriant and seems like it is about to take over the sidewalk.  Plus I love all the windows and reflections in this section of the street. There is a lot happening downtown especially in the close by neighborhoods. There are all sorts of small businesses taking over and renovating formerly run down properties. Condo conversion and new construction is happening. It is quite the frothy mix. Downtown Tulsa is becoming a cool place to be.

I processed my original photograph with Topaz Impressions’ “Cezanne 1” filter blended 60% with the original photo.

Digital Art Meme – A Vintage Chevy down the Street

Chevy Truck - Impressions Abstractions 56 pct

During an evening dog walk we found this 1960’s model Chevy pickup parked down the street from us. I had not seen it before and with Tennessee plates I don’t know if it is going to be here permanently or not. I think it is a beauty.

I used the Abstract I filter of Topaz Impressions backed off to 56 pct.

Abandonment – II

Abandoned Gas Station

Monday, after work I took Logan to his voice lessons. The studio is in an old strip shopping center and I like to walk around rather than sit in the waiting space. Last week I featured a recently abandoned Shell Station at the center. Well guess what, there is another abandoned Gas Station a couple hundred yards south of the Shell Station. I think it has been boarded up ten years or so. I forget what chain had the site.

They left their old sign up and I always get a chuckle out of it.

Abandoned Gas Station Sign

Since the station went out of business the prices listed have sometimes seemed like a huge bargain or a big ripoff. Right now they are just a moderately good deal.

Digital Art – Quonset Hut

Clinton Quonset Hut

I found a quonset hut in downtown Clinton, Oklahoma during a walk there a couple weeks ago. Of course wanting to improve on mother nature I ran it through Topaz Labs Impressions program and decided I liked their “Cave Dweller I” filter. It made the beautiful blue Oklahoma sky kind of this reddish, purplish, orange thing but hey I kind of like it that way. There is something about quonset huts that begs photographers to take their picture. They are so simple geometrically and they usually have the nice rusty patina to go along with them.

Skywatch Friday – Turkey Mountain Sunset

Turkey Mountain Sunset 2 Glow - Fur Feather i 53pct

I found this dancing tree during one of my evening runs on Turkey Mountain. I love the way the leaves reflect the low sun on its way down. A few minutes after this, it starts getting dark up on the mountain and it would be time to head back to the parking lot but I’m always wanting to go a little bit further. I love the feeling of being out in the middle of nowhere.

Woolaroc Skywatch

Woolaroc Sky Impressions Swirly Strokes I 47pct

The suddenly camera shy wife and kid off to the left. Note that painted look is because I used Topaz Labs Impressions software on the image. I backed it off about 50% on the strength of the effect.

More from our family trip to Woolaroc last weekend. We left Tulsa and it was all warm and everything and by the time we got to Woolaroc about an hour later it was chilly and windy but we had an interesting sky so it was all worth it.

Saturday’s Critters – Trumpeter Swan

Lafortune park Goose - Topaz Impressions Van Gogh I

A goose Trumpeter Swan I encountered Wednesday night. He was very cooperative and even posed for me. When I got a little closer he decided he had enough and waddled off into the water. Telling me to back off the whole time.

Thanks to my friends DrillerAA and EGCamera girl for setting me straight on what species this is.

Bixby Pecan Orchard

Sunday afternoon was just too nice to stay inside and watch football games. Heather went to her exercise class and I took son to visit a friend who lives deep in the woods south of Tulsa. So I had some time to myself and my camera.

Bixby Pecan Orchard Topaz Glow

The scene above is a pecan orchard near the the Tulsa suburb of Bixby. Bixby has pecan orchards, truck farms, grass farms, and the most expensive real estate in Oklahoma.  There is something about a well tended pecan orchard that is very appealing especially on a beautiful warm winter day with a pretty sky.

I used Topaz Labs new “Glow” program to process the image. Somehow it really enhanced the visual entanglement of the branches. The scene reminds of ballet dancers with their arms in the air. Well maybe I’m getting carried away with myself.

I’m on the free 30 day trial at Glow. So I’m trying to decide whether to get it or not.

Eric Baker’s “Oklahoma Autumn” at Philbrook

Philbrook Redbud Tree

This is a Topaz Labs Impressions modified photograph of part of Eric Baker’s “Oklahoma Autumn” installation” at Philbrook Museum of Art‘s Gardens. It is made of steel, agate, and kiln fired glass and is absolutely beautiful and I always have to go check it out whenever I visit the museum. I used Topaz’s Impressions to give “swirly” the photo a little bit.
