This week I am going back to our vacation last month in Orange Beach, Alabama. This is a photo from my Android phone with a little Topaz Impressions oil painting filter backed off about 50 percent. Orange Beach has lots and lots of high rise condos on the beach. Even at the height of the summer season it never seems like there is that many people out and about. Which is fine with me.

Weekend Reflections – Tulsa’s Cherry Street
Cherry Street is a cool part of Tulsa with independent businesses and old storefronts and generally just a fun place to hang out in this day of mass merchandisers.

Skywatch Friday – the Thirteenth
I went running in the Tulsa suburb of Jenks a couple weeks ago and when I finished up in the late afternoon this tree was yelling for my attention. I had to maneuver around to get a photo free of billboards and power lines but here it is. You can see one of the Cityplex towers of south Tulsa to the left. And I confess, I had to improve on nature a little bit, or at least the image my camera presented me, so I jacked it up with some Topaz Impressions software.
Anyways, this Friday is the 13th, the only one we have in 2016, so watch yourself!!

Downtown Tulsa Sun, Shadows, and Color
I love the light this time of year and the Fall color. I found a tree still somewhat conflicted about Autumn. I love the conflict and I also love how the sun and shadows work together. Autumn is my favorite time of year.

Digital Art Meme – Fair Food
I am continuing on the Tulsa State Fair from my visit Sunday. I love the colorful food trailers at the fair. I am not a big fan of fair food but I do love the sights. Has anybody ever tried the world famous, as seen on the Food Network, original Minneapple Pie? If you have tell us about it.
I used Topaz Impressions on this. I have now joined the Photoshop world. Son is taking a computer graphics class at school so I figure he can teach me how to use it. I’m really interested in learning about layers and using textures and such. I’ll keep you posted.

Digital Art – Yellow Flowers
I found myself with some time last Saturday after I dropped the kid off at his Improv class so I went up to Tulsa’s Linnaeus Teaching Gardens and strolled around taking pictures. I am trying to learn how to do bokeh where the subject is in focus and the background is out of focus. I found these yellow flowers (you want to know what kind they are, I told you, they are yellow flowers) and loved them. For today I ran them through Topaz Impressions and backed the filter off about a quarter.
There is something about the last days of summer that makes flowers that much more beautiful even though they may be a little faded.

Harbinger of Autumn
It is getting to be late September. Pretty soon the weather will break and Tulsa’s long wonderful Fall season will be upon us. You can already tell that things are changing. Although still hot, the sun is a little lower. The mornings are a little cooler. The sky gets a little bluer. There is something subtle about a cottonwood tree that heralds the coming of Fall. I don’t know if is a subtle change in the color of its leaves or just what, maybe my imagination, but I can tell that things are changing.
How can you tell that the seasons are changing?
Saturday Critters – Essence of Bear
This is a resident bear at Yellowstone Bear World in Rexburg, Idaho. I call the post “Essence of Bear” because I blended a drawing rendition of the original photograph with the photograph (at about a 20% drawing/80% original ratio) to bring out some of the features of the animal because the original photograph was like a silhouette of the bear with his muzzle.

Digital Art Meme – A Vintage Chevy down the Street
During an evening dog walk we found this 1960’s model Chevy pickup parked down the street from us. I had not seen it before and with Tennessee plates I don’t know if it is going to be here permanently or not. I think it is a beauty.
I used the Abstract I filter of Topaz Impressions backed off to 56 pct.

Abandonment
Shell has closed one of their local gas stations but I still love that big canopy.
I used Topaz Impressions to process this photo.
