Skywatch Friday – Morning River Parks Sky

RiverTrails parks with a flag - Topaz Textures Color Burst

I dropped the kid off at school the other morning and being a day off I spent a few minutes walking on the River. It was the start of a glorious day. The sun was bright, the sky was blue, the air was clear and cold with a stiff breeze. It doesn’t get better than that.

Skywatch Friday – Afternoon Walk Around the Pond

Recently Added-178

For Thanksgiving we spent with family western Oklahoma. It is truly the land of the big skies and the Wednesday before Thanksgiving, son Logan, brother Bob, and I went on a walk around a local pond. It was spectacular, not a cloud in the deep blue sky, the grass and brush were a golden color but the trees still had a lot of green on them. It was like a perfect moment that I will remember forever.

Skywatch Friday – Early Morning

Mohawk Park in the morning

Last Friday I had the day off and after dropping Logan off at school I drove up to Oxley Nature Center for a hike. Across the road the dew was still on the grass of Mohawk Park Golf Course. A beautiful day was starting with not a cloud in the sky. So I violated all the rules and decided to shoot into the sun. I liked that big ole tree and was too lazy to wade across the canal and get on the other side of it.

Skywatch Friday – Neighborhood Sky – Warts and All

East Side Tree Impressions Monet I 25pct

Last Saturday, Heather and I were walking to a craft show in a not so great neighborhood just east of downtown Tulsa when I spotted this tree with the bright yellow leaves set against the blue sky and in amongst garbage carts, a food truck, and the back of a stop sign. I live in a city folks many of my Skywatch pictures have power lines, billboards, and other distractions. But I take the pics anyway. (Amongst is a word in Oklahoma by the way)

What about you, do you ever just take the pic anyway?

Skywatch Friday – Super/Blood/Eclipsing/Harvest Mooon

IMG_1565Last weekend we had the the big Moon Mania. Comprising a Super Moon, the Harvest Moon , a full eclipse of the moon, and a Blood Moon.  We had a true multi-tasking moon. IMG_1570A Super Moon is just where the elliptical path of the moon takes it closest to earth.  An eclipse of a Super Moon is pretty rare. The next one is going to be in 2033. A Harvest Moon is the first full moon in the Fall.  IMG_1582

This total eclipse was the last eclipse of a lunar tetrad a series of four total eclipses about four months apart.

The term Blood Moon is used for total eclipses because when the moon comes out of the eclipse it is exposed to light that has gone through the earth’s atmosphere.

It was fun to watch and photograph. We were working a project for Logan’s school so we would work on it for a while and go watch the moon. Fortunately, the world didn’t end. It was all fun and I was especially intrigued with the red color of the moon on the back side of the eclipse. It was very difficult to photograph.

I’m hoping that my fellow Skywatchers took lots of pics of the event. I’ll be checking them out.
