Closing Out 2021

I love the time between Christmas and New Years Day. The days leading up to Christmas are all in a rush especially if somebody in the family gets ill. Afterwards you can relax a little bit hopefully. I took advantage of one bright, sunny, day and went on a bike ride.

One of my favorite trails is alongside a turnpike on one side and fields and farms on the other. I ran into a mutt and jeff combination of horses.

You got the little one, all cute and fuzzy.

And the older one, both looking for something better to eat than the dry grass on offer.

I got to the end and rested a bit in the shadow of a billboard.

When I came home, this guy was waiting for me. iNaturalist tells me that this is a Coopers Hawk. He was using our mailbox as an observation perch. We have lots of squirrels and bunnies in the neighborhood and he was looking to eat one of those cute little critters.

Hey you know, cute little critters don’t live forever and hawks have to eat to right?

Are you on instagram? If so, are we following each other? My handle is @yogiab. These are my top nine posts for the year. I love instagram.

Do you live close to Tulsa? Come join in the First Day Hike and Scavenger Hunt on Turkey Mountain. It was supposed to be New Year’s Day but we postponed it until Saturday, January 8th from 8 am to 5 pm. Check out this facebook post for the details. We are hiding the above repurposed jewel boxes for people to find. They are going to have various Turkey Mountain stickers and key rings to find. There are also going to be a bunch of tee shirts hidden on the trails for people to find.

Do you like the cd cases. I repurposed them and designed and printed new covers and the liner notes are the Leave No Trace seven principles. I hope that I am not spoiling the surprise. The RiverParks Authority posted the photo on their website so I figured I can post my own photo on my site.

That’s about it for now. I wish everybody a Happy, Healthy, and Prosperous 2022. Take Care!

October Shadows

I went walking around Tulsa’s Lafortune Park. Saw this tree, half in the sun, half shaded. I loved it. I did an edit with the iphone app ArtCard.

And then later on my walk encountered this big ole thing the parking lot. It looks very official.

And this is from my back yard yesterday morning. It looks warm and sunny and it was 44F. Not warm in my book.

Calling the Hogs

Friday, my wife and I were in a parking lot and came across this bright spot. I was like, What!!

Somebody had an Arkansas Razorbacks plate and it reflected perfectly on the ground. I love it.

I’m helping take care of a monarch way station on Turkey mountain. The stake fence makes for some nice shadows.

I get bored while watering so I made a time lapse video of it.

And the other day while hiking on Turkey Mountain I came across a family of deer grazing including this one coming out of the shadows. I am glad the deer are returning. The mountain has become really popular but the hub bub has died down a little bit and the deer are coming back.

Shadowy Philbrook Gardens

Friday, I visited the Philbrook Art Museum in Tulsa. My MIL buys us a membership every year and I love that she does that. I don’t need any more stuff, a museum membership is a gift that keeps on giving. This trip I spent it all outside. I walked two miles in the gardens. Pretty good workout. And of course I took lots of photographs in my wanderings.

I came upon this sculpture. I like the shadow pattern on it.

I love these blue chairs. They are at the top of the hill and have a grand view of the grounds.

They even have swings now.

I actually swang a little (or maybe I swinged). Do you like the tan I got on my legs from ten days sitting on the beach recently? It had been raining just before I got there and I didn’t notice that the seat was yet so my rear end was soaked after this. Oh well, things dry right?

One of my favorite sculptures in the gardens is “Oklahoma Autumn” by Eric Baker. It was too early to catch leaves turning at Philbrook but I will be back.

I had the GPS on my watch turned on during my walking and here is my map. One hour to do two miles? Yep I was in major wibble wobbling mode. Do you know that they used to have a geocache on the grounds. Yes they did and I found it eleven years ago. Read about it.

Shadowy Beach Sightings

DSCF1006

From our recent vacation. Shadows from a fence protecting the dunes.

DSCF1013

And Heather and I during one of our walks. We walked on the beach barefoot twenty five miles total. I kind of miss it. I love how skinny I am in this photo, and tall!!

Shadowy Purple Coneflowers

I love faded out purple coneflowers. My wife doesn’t deadhead them any longer just for me.

Double Exposure - Car and Back Yard

And a double exposure of a bright red car and my back yard. Lots of shadows, here, there, and everywhere.

Our overgrown backyard. I like the wild look. Too hot to mow right now.

During our recent mini-trip to the Branson, MO area we tried to eat outside as much as possible since it is ground zero for the delta variant. We found this nice place.

We spent a lot of time at our cabin reading and talking on the deck. Lots of shadows there.

And some more cabin shadows.

And yet a few more!! It’s a cabin shadow extravaganza!! I took my drone but the electronic fence for it say no can do!! Restricted flight rules, I guess because we were close to a Corps of Engineers Lake.

And a shot at home when we got back. Apologies if I’ve already posted this. I have over 80,000 photos in my archives. I can hardly remember what I did yesterday let alone what photos I’ve posted and which Ihaven’t. Double apologies for being so crusty.

That’s all the shadows I got this week. I’m linking with the Magical Mystery Teacher’s Shadow Shot Sunday 2. Go check it out.

Shadow Shot Sunday – Yoga on the Mountain

The other day I went and dropped off the kid to start his shift at Lowes. I was all set to go back home and get ready for a stand up paddleboard yoga class I take every now and then but the weather was cool, sunny and nice, and the covid is raging here in little old 60% unvaccinated Oklahoma so I decided to go for a hike on Turkey Mountain rather than go inside.

So I took off. I took the blue trail on top of the mountain on the outbound, north route, and came back on the lower yellow trail which has great views of the Arkansas River and south Tulsa. It faces east and the sun was still pretty low and I thought…

Wow, there are lots of places to do yoga here. I was thinking in particular of sun salutations which is a good dynamic limbering up pose.

Put them rocks to use for something besides falling off of and tripping over.

This looked to me like a tree doing the tree pose on a rock.

You got two rocks here, for romantic yoga folks.

This is more my style. A rock I can just walk up on and something where I can reach out and steady myself. I do a lot of steadying myself when I do yoga. Of course many people don’t recognize what I do as yoga.

Here is a place for a whole family. An old oil pumpjack base. With my favorite directional sign. Just follow the arrows if you are lost. My advice is to not get lost.

Here is a video of my route.
