I visited the Philbrook Gardens here in Tulsa and found a couple of butterflies. I love it when I can capture them feeding from flowers.

From our vacation to the Gulf Coast of Alabama earlier this year. This is an inland scene in a bay near Orange Beach. We had a great time and I took lots of photos.
This book themed sculpture is outside one of our local Tulsa libraries. I love all things books.
And an action cam photo from one of my bike rides here in town. I love this old natural gas powered electric generating station. The sign on top is neon and looks great from the other side of the Arkansas River. The camera mounts on my handlebars and takes a photo every three seconds. I don’t keep all of them. Typically I have about 1500 photos of which ten to twenty are ones I want to keep. I can do the winnowing quickly, typically in about ten to 15 minutes.

It is very educational, bring your kids and it is free! No admission fee, free parking, just free. Lots of organizations will have booths and there will be presentations. Check this link for more details including the lineup of speakers and some of the ancillary events associated with Monarchs on the Mountain. And not photo, not my copyright, although somebody holds it. A jigsaw puzzle I finished earlier this week. The sky was a bugger on this one. I’m working on a sea turtle puzzle now. It’s really hard.

On our recent trip to the Gulf of Mexico we decided to branch out and check out Pirate’s Cove. A beach bar not far by miles from where we were staying, maybe five or six miles, but over 45 minutes to drive to because of the all the bays and inlets.
It’s a laid back beach bar that was packed on the day we went. They are on the bay and I’d guess most motored their boats over there. They are famous for their hamburgers and their alcohol laced bushwhackers. We had one of each when we were there.
It has a funky vibe and is supposedly the inspiration for two beach songs. I don’t know if it’s true or not but the place is good and the songs are good so I’ll match them up but I’m not going to fight anybody over it. (Us photobloggers don’t fight.)
The first song attached to this place is Jimmy Buffet’s legendary, “Cheeseburgers in Paradise.” I will say that I would put Pirate Cove’s Cheeseburgers near the top of my list. They are not cheap, if you are looking for cheap go somewhere else.
The other song is Kenny Chesney’s “Bar at the End of the World.” Pirate’s Cover is definitely out in the middle of nowhere. I would recommend making sure your car’s navigation system is working. Even then, we made a wrong turn or two. We started out in Alabama, ventured into Florida, and then back to Alabama to get there.

On a dog walk the other day I noticed the shadows were long because the sun was low.
The same spot using my hipstamatic app with a lens that tripled everything. Three times the fun?
Different tree, different hipstamatic lens.
Yet again.
I love Hipstamatic, nobody else I know seems to though. Oh well.

This is a park just off downtown Tulsa. It used to be known as Centennial Park but is now known as Veterans Park. It’s a very nice retreat. Lots of landscaping and it has a trail that goes around and a big pond and some other water features.
Back when I worked this was part of one of my downtown running routes.
The building in the background is now home to Tulsa City Parks. I just happened to have a meeting over there and so I got there intentionally early so I would have time for a brief walk around the pond.
So whatever they call it, it’s a nice park.

Last Friday I loaded up my bike and took it to Tulsa’s RiverParks trails. The light wind was out of the north so I started on the south end at 71st street so I would have the wind at my back on the return leg of my ride.
I had my action camera attached to the handlebars set to take a photo every three seconds and off I went. I was feeling strong so I went across the 71st bridge to take the long uphill ride to Turkey Mountain. It’s a gradual slope but still I had been putting it off. It went well though, me and my knee felt strong even though pretty slow.
I went by the lower parking lot at Turkey Mountain. We’ve had a couple of serious crimes lately at Turkey Mountain. A stabbing and a rape so everybody is on edge. The RiverParks Authority was having extra cameras installed as I went by.
It was amazing the number of people I encountered on the trail. Strange for a week day except is Friday really a weekday any longer? Above is a fraction of the bicyclists I encountered.
Walkers and Runners galore. I love the lady with the cane. After my surgery I did lots of walking with my walker and later my cane. I should have attached an action to cam to it!!
I was astounded by the number of people talking their babies for a stroll. Tons of baby strolling moms and pops trail warriors.

And dog walkers everywhere.
And people standing in the trail yakking. Move off to the side folks, you are messing up my Strava segment times.
And people off by themselves, just pondering the view, taking photos, talking on the phone.
I crossed the river four times on my ride. Once on the 71st bridge to start, the bridge above, which call the 11th street bridge, and the Williams Crossings pedestrian bridge twice.

A couple kayakers were out that morning. I’ve kayaked once on the river last year. I’ll be doing it again in the next several weeks.
All in all a good ride!! Pretty slow but hey I had a good time.
