Thanksgiving Weekend Critters

DSCF0038

I fired up the trailcam in the backyard. It captured this handsome tuxedo cat sneaking up on something. We have all sorts of field mice and small birds hanging around the backyard.

It looks like he is looking at the overturned barrel planter.

Earlier in the day a squirrel was checking out the wheelbarrow.

Back the next day checking out the barrel.

We had another Coopers Hawk perched on our back fence right above the wheel barrow.

Cooper's Hawk

He stayed there quite a while and kept looking at the ground. I’m sure he was hungry.

Here’s our little Kodi dog, the Pomeranian sporting his Thanksgiving hairdo and tie. I swear he prances around after a new hairdo.

And here’s Lizzy with a Thanksgiving nap. She’s a championship napper. Nobody naps like a cat.

I hope everybody who celebrates Thanksgiving had a good one. Ours was a little quiet this year.

Saturday’s Critters – 23 November 2024 Edition

A couple of geese on Tulsa’s Swan Lake (which is really a large pond.)

Our chill cat Lizzy taking bathing herself on the back of our sectional.

And yawning big for a nap.

Kodi, our Pomeranian is settling in for a nap as well. This is all making me sleepy.

Shadow Shot Sunday – From the Dog to the Beach

Here’s Kodi the ornery Pomeranian hiding in the shadows of a tomato plant.

At the gym, a Kia Soul with eye lashes.

From twenty years ago, with family in Ventura, California celebrating my brother Bob’s retirement from the Navy. Looks like me and my lovely, and kind of ornery, niece Dana were having a photo shootout on the beach.

And my sister Ellen, Dana’s mom, joining in the fun. Ellen has a ornery side also.

As you can tell, it was an impromptu beach visit, and too cold in December for swimming suit anyway.

Saturday’s Critters – Lizzie, Kodi, and some Birds

This is our sweet Lizzie. She has a sad face she is really a good cat.

And this is our juvenile delinquent, Kodi the Pomeranian. Most of the time he is a sweet dog but he has issues that we are working on. My wife, who he really loves, has left town for some training so he and I are together this weekend and we have had some challenges but we are making it work. I jollied him into going on a walk which took the edge of his anxiety and later we played for a bit and he let me pet him for quite a while.

The weather broke for a little bit the other day so I went hiking on Turkey Mountain. Towards the end of my outing the sun almost broke through and the birds high in the trees all broke out in a cacophony of birdsong. I only had my phone with me so I got no photos and I made this video just for the sound. It was great. Since then, we are back to misty rain. We were supposed to have a work day on the mountain Sunday but put it off for a month due to the muddy conditions.

That’s about it for this week. I’m linking with Eileen’s Saturday’s Critters. Go check it out.

Saturday’s Critters – Home and Away

First up our puppy Kodi and cat Lizzy. They love to play and seem to enjoy each others company. Kodi is getting bigger and stronger versus Lizzy getting better at wrestling. She has developed a takedown that she uses on him sometimes. It is fun watching them.

Kodi is getting bigger and stronger all the time. We start him at puppy school in a couple weeks. We all know that they should rename dog school as owner school right?

Kodi is still very small. The smallest dog we have ever had. We found out that we can just park him in a laundry basket if we need to confine him a short while and his crate is not available.

Still got my trailcam going in the backyard. I think this is a downy woodpecker.

squirrelproof feeder take one

This looks like a squirrel but cannot be a squirrel because it is feeding from a squirrelproof bird feeder.

robin on the ground

We are getting lots of robins scratching around for food under the feeders.

rabbit at night 2

And we get rabbits at night.

I captured a red shouldered hawk on our neighbors roof. They like rabbits. I’ve seen them this year land in our front yard and walk into the hedges and come out with baby rabbits and mice. Hawks have to eat to I guess.

I saw a goose in the parking lot earlier this week. It proceeded to wander on the main avenue nearby and somehow did not get run over.

IMG_2923

I went on a hike the other day and spotted this pair of geese. I think they must be nesting or something because they didn’t move much and were giving me the stinkeye from clear across the pond.

IMG_2924

And a fuzzy photo of a mallard paddling around the same pond.

IMG_2921

The same hike, I came across robins. This one blended into the tree it was perched on.

This one was on the ground scratching around.

That’s a wrap this week!! I’m linking with Eileen’s Saturday’s Critters. Check it out!
