Saturdays Critters -Domestic and Wild

DSCF0011

Me and Sadie on the trailcam in the backyard. Her favorite game is fetch. We play it several times a day.

Whitetail deer on Turkey Mountain

Deer sighted during a hike on Turkey Mountain earlier this month.

Turkey Sculpture on Turkey Mountain

Yes, there are turkeys on Turkey Mountain.

Big Horn Sheep Sculpture on Turkey Mountain

And a bighorn sheep as well.

That’s it folks. I am linking with Saturday’s Critters.

Saturday’s Critters – On the Water and in the Backyard

I went on a bike ride on the River Parks Trails along the Arkansas River here in Tulsa and took along my “good” camera.

I found this pod of American White Pelicans. I think a couple of them are sleeping.

IMG_3937

I am thinking these are female mallard ducks but I am not sure. If I am wrong let me know!

Great Blue Heron in the Arkansas River

I love Great Blue Herons. They are a bird that no matter where I go, I see them. And those pose beautifully for inept picture takers like me.

And a Great Egret snoozing away in the river. Google lens says this is an American White Pelican. I don’t think that is right!! Maybe AI’s takeover of the world is not going well.

And from the backyard. I love cardinals, so bright chirpy.

That’s it for this week. I am linking with Saturday’s Critters.

Saturday’s Critters – Backyard Birds at the Feeder

Brown Thrasher

I love the Brown Thrashers that visit the camera feeder. They are such beautiful birds.

House Sparrow

And we get lots of house sparrows. It’s not their fault they are non-native. I’m also non-native.

Juvenile Northern Cardinal

This poor bird looks a little strange because it is standing kind of close to the camera plus I think it’s just a teenager. I looked a little strange when I was a teenager as well. Of course some people I think I still look strange, but that is getting off topic.

Saturday’s Critters – Backyard and Beyond

A male northern cardinal captured on the camera feeder in the backyard. I used a hipstamatic filter on the image.

Big Foot on the loose on Turkey Mountain.

Another male Northern Cardinal in teh backyard

House Finch

I love the House Finches when they come to call.

Squirrel

I leave a few peanuts on the feeder. The blue jays and cardinals appreciate it and sometimes squirrels. I use jalapeno flavored birdseed and saffron seeds in the feeder. Birds love them but squirrels don’t like it.

These images are from late March and early April. I have fallen way behind on my posting. I am linking with Saturday’s Critters.

Backyard Critters – Early April 2026 Camera Feeder Edition

I got a new camera bird feeder and fired it up. Seems to be working great so far. The squirrels have not chewed through any wires mainly because there are no external wires to chew through.

Female Cardinal

Another house finch

Squirrel

I’m still using hot sauce laced bird food and the squirrels hate it but still they hop on just to check it out. I put a half handful of peanuts in the cup this one is checking out. The cardinals love the peanuts and the squirrels do as well.

Saturday’s Critters – Real and Sculptural

Here’s a real critter, out sweet Lizzie.

And another real critter. This is Sadie, our rescue terrier. She is very energetic and wants all the love. She is very sweet.

And sculptural. Somebody made an Adventure Lab geocache using some of the animal sculptures on Tulsa’s RiverParks trails. This is what I call the Bear Fountain. It’s a nice place to rest on a bike ride.

And a bobcat trying get duck or something. Very lifelike.

And some otters frolicking.

I completed the Adventure Lab. Completing it is its own reward!!

And here is a 20 second video showing some of the birds that visited my camera feeder this week.

And that’s a wrap. I am linking with Saturday’s Critters

Saturday’s Critters – Flag Day Critters

A collage of some of the birds visiting our camera feeder.

Clockwise from top left:

A house sparrow feeding a chick right on the feeder.

What google lens tells me is a northern mockingbird.

A brown thrasher.

A house finch

A great tailed grackle

A northern cardinal.

Literally 90% or more of the birds at the feeder are mourning doves. Sorry I didn’t include a photo of one of them.

I’m using habanero flavored bird food supplemented with dried meal worms. Squirrels do hate the habanero flavor but strangely enough there is the odd squirrel that just gobbles it up.

Saturday’s Critters – Around the House

Sadie's first spa day

Sadie the rescue dog got her first spa day. I dropped her off for a trim and a bath. She seemed pretty happy when I picked her up.

Sweet Lizzy the cat is the queen of the house.

And a bunny at night.

DSCF0047

Some sort of bird, a grackle I’m guessing coming in for a landing on one of our feeders.

And a 53 second video on the birds that visited our camera feeder the past week or so. We have had tons of mourning doves, a few grackles, the occasional cardinal, some brown thrashers. Surprisingly, even though I am using the habanero laced feed there a few squirrels who eat hearty.
