Shadow Shot Sunday – Downtown Owasso, Oklahoma

I was in the Tulsa suburb of Owasso last week. They have revamped their downtown area in the last several years and I was checking it out.

So this is my first ever shadow view, as far as I can remember (the only thing I can remember these days is that I have a bad memory.) It’s next to their history museum.

They have a big outdoor event space as well with some interesting shadows.

I like how the shadows interacted with the brick in this shot.

And a run of the mill bench shadow but you know I am easily amused.

Electric Meters

I am a fan of back alleys so I tucked down one and found this set of electric meters. The engineer in me loves stuff like this that is designed and is so cool, functional, and geometric. Just wait a few years and somebody will mess it up, happens every time. Entropy. I kind of like the rust colored paint job as well. It’s almost red.

Painted in Waterlogue

And a waterogue app rendition of our back patio when it was raining earlier this month. I love the blue cushions. I may have posted this photo previously. Maybe not.

Shadow Shot Sunday – Spring Forward Edition

Tree Shadows

A shadow from a few weeks ago in our neighborhood park.

Cabin Life - Shadows on the Deck

From our cabin last Spring when Heather and spent a Covid safe weekend in the woods of Southeast Oklahoma.

And three years ago, me and bike shot by my cheap gopro clone, bad white balance and all. Hoping to get my bike back from the shop soon to make more shadowy shots.

Shadow Shot Sunday – The Winnie Mae

Winnie Mae

Last week I stopped in at the Oklahoma History Center in Oklahoma City. Their big centerpiece display is the Winnie Mae, a replica of the Lockheed 5C Vega aircraft that Oklahoma aviation pioneer, Wiley Post, flew solo around the world in 1933. He subsequently flew the plywood framed Winnie Mae to 50,000 feet using a homemade pressurization suit. In 1935 Post and another Oklahoma legend, Will Rogers died in an airplane crash near Point Barrow, Alaska.

Shadows

Now back down to earth, I had a symmetrical shadow in my back yard.

I’ve started running again. Didn’t realize how much I missed it. Here is a mesh shadow of some temporary fencing.

DSCF0491

And of a pedestrian bridge.

And speaking of pedestrian. Heather and I went to a local brewery and had a couple of their beers. As a bonus, the glass had some interesting shadows. I guess it was time to head home.

Shadowy Snowy Shot Sunday

Snowy Shadows

We went to the see the kid to day at college. While we were still on the way he tripped and sprained his ankle. So the “go visit and resupply the kid” trip became the “evaluate and evacuate the kid” trip. We brought him home with us so he can heal up. It would have been a lot harder to do that without so many classes being online. I did get this shadowy photo of the trees and snow outside his dorm.

Shadow Shot Sunday at the Zoo

Last week we took a little family trip to the Zoo. While there I captured images of shadows.

I am a sucker for wooden pedestrian bridges. I have dozens of shots of them. I don’t know why I like them so much. Found this one with some shadows.

And I got a fairly sharply defined streetlight shadow.

I am also a sucker for iron work and the resulting complicated shadows such as this one at a picnic pavillion in the Zoo.

Since the zoo trip we got the kid back to college. He’s pretty happy, maybe too happy to be away from us. We miss him too! But we are also enjoying have the house to ourselves again.

Brother Bob is out of quarantine at his Assisted Living Apartment. He’s been in either hospitals or Long Term Care for over a year and has really worked hard to get to a more regular living option. He’s enjoying mingling (safely) with his fellow residents and is partaking of the activities the place has.

So that’s about it for today!! I am linking with Shadow Shot Sunday 2.

Shadow Shot Sunday – Out and About Edition

I thought this shadow of garland strung on a bridge looked like an EKG or maybe a stock market graph or something like that.

I love the pure geometry of this.

A bright sun makes for sharp shadows.

Not strictly a shadow shot, or maybe not a shadow shot at all. I love these dried blooms.

Shadow Shot Sunday – Sunny Day Shadows

DSCF0401

We are having some mild sunny days lately. That makes for great shadows. Even the snowman has a shadow.

DSCF0399

And park benches…

DSCF0397

And bridge railings

DSCF0396

And fences…

I thought struck me. Where do shadows go when the sun is not out? They cannot just disappear, right? That would violate some scientific law it seems to me.

Be safe everybody!!

Shadow Shot Sunday – Saint Francis Edition

Our Health Club is part of Saint Francis Hospital here in Tulsa. The hospital has tons and tons of Francis imagery everywhere including going into the gym. I keep wanting to get a photo of him with Dallas Cowboys cap but I don’t want to trample the garden to get to him and my wife works there so I don’t to do any CLMs on her behalf (“Career Limiting Moves”)

Nothing makes better shadows than wrought iron. This example is at Woodward Park.

Oklahoma has lots of cool stories. In my opinion, one of the coolest is of the Five Moons. Five Indian Ballerinas from Oklahoma who achieved international acclaim for their dancing. Read more about them here. Above is Moscelyne Larkin.

So that is my Shadowy doings today. Check out Shadow Shot Sunday 2

Shadow Shot Sunday – Turkey Mountain and Town Shadows

On Turkey Mountain late one afternoon on a beautiful sunny day.

At the Slide Vale at Tulsa’s Gathering Place early one morning.

Downtown Tulsa. The city is letting restaurants use the parking spaces in front of their businesses to make “parklets” for outside seating. Great idea in these pandemic days.

Shadow Shot Sundays – Late Summer

It has been a long time to participate in Shadow Shot Sunday. Anytime is a good time to restart right?

I have been working a volunteer gig where I evaluate trail pavement conditions. I sure like the sections of the trail with big trees for shade.

I looked up the stairs one morning and saw this funky shadow. I used the Hipstamatic app to make it a little more arty. I am not sure I succeeded.

_DSC1002

Last week I attended a fly-in at the Will Rogers Birthplace Ranch. The thing about fly-ins is that they are at airfields and they are not known for shade. Lots of the pilots with aircraft with overhead wings were sitting underneath the wing. I stood under a few wings myself.

So like I said, I am linking with Shadow Shot Sunday hosted by the Magical Mystery Teacher. Go check it out.
