Photo Fun with my Takashi 521FX Camera

As some of you know I have a stranage collection of cameras. One of my favorites is the Takashi 521FX camera. It is relatively inexpensive and is designed for a number of effects. My favorite is the Negative effects. I pulled it out of the drawer lately and took a few pics.

SUNP0103

A family friend’s long fence lined driveway. I really like the shadows of the fence.

SUNP0087

SuperPizzaBoy riding a horse. I have taken hundreds of pics of son riding a horse. I’m entitled to a few negative ones aren’t I?

SUNP0053

A landing on the Arkansas River.I love the chains and the water in the shot. Plus I like how the shadows are ligh colored.

SUNP0060

A segment of the beautiful Arkansas River trail system here in Tulsa. I think the negative shot really emphasizes how many trees we have.

SUNP0028

Reflections can sometimes be striking. This is of course a power pole reflected in a window.

Thanks for indulging me.

The Blue Whale on Route 66 for Blue Monday

DSCN0965

A few weeks ago I found myself with a few minutes to spare in the Tulsa suburb of Catoosa. So, of course I went to the Blue Whale of Catoosa. Right on Highway 66. A tradition since 1972 when it was built.

DSCN0960

So, you will just have to grin and nod like I do when people talk about how they used to stop here in in the 1940’s, 50′, and 60’s when the old timers (“most of whom are younger than me!”) used to stop here when travelling cross country with their parents. I have yet to mention that it wasn’t built until 1972. And they in turn are supportive my illusions. Live and let live is my motto.

DSCN0955

It is free. I don’t know how, but the place is well maintained, but they don’t really want you swimming there anymore.

DSCN0957

Even the restrooms are sparkling clean. In over 1800 posts I have only posted the inside of a restroom once and talk about the uproar. You’d have thought they had actually found a live Democrate in Oklahoma. So you’ll have to take my word for it.

DSCN0963

They stock the pond with fish. This guy came trotting through, all “excuse me sir” and of course I was all “excuse yourself sir.” Catch and release only.

DSCN0959

I didn’t spend long, but I always love a trip to the Blue Whale. What is your favorite Route 66 attraction?

Blue Monday

I have posted several Blue Whale posts including:

Weekend Reflections – Blue Whale

And several others.

Song-ography “Pink”

“Pink” by Aerosmith
Written by Richie Supa, Steven Tyler, and Glen Ballard

Pink it’s my new obsession
Pink it’s not even a question,
Pink on the lips of your lover, ’cause
Pink is the love you discover

Spring Tulips

Pink as the bing on your cherry
Pink ’cause you are so very
Pink it’s the color of passion
‘Cause today it just goes with the fashion

Pink Poinsettia

Pink it was love at first sight
Pink when I turn out the light, and
Pink gets me high as a kite
And I think everything is going to be all right
No matter what we do tonight

07200009

You could be my flamingo
‘Coz pink is the new kinda lingo
Pink like a deco umbrella
It’s kink – but you don’t ever tell her

20090815_21

Pink it was love at first sight, and
Pink when I turn out the light
Pink gets me high as a kite
And I think everything is going to be all right
No matter what we do tonight

20100403_44

I want to be your lover
I wanna wrap you in rubber
As pink as the sheets that we lay on
Pink it’s my favorite crayon, yeah

Knock Out Rose 2a>

Pink it was love at first sight
Pink when I turn out the light
Pink it’s like red but not quite
And I think everything is going to be all right
No matter what we do tonight

Do you want to know a secret? Well, I’m going to tell you anyway. I kind of like the color pink. Not like my youngest niece Jillian who, well I would never say that she is over the top on anything, but she really, really likes the color pink. Now don’t go tell anybody besides your thousand closest friends. I have a few pink shirts. At the gas company I tell them that they are light purple or salmon.

Skywatch Friday – September Sunset

September Sunset.jpg

It is the middle of September and summer is hanging on and not letting go. It was over 90 and humid on Wednesday. I’m still training for the Tulsa Run 15K in late October and maybe the Route 66 Half Marathon in November. Last night I ran eight miles along the River Parks trails here in Tulsa.

I’m a very slow runner. In fact I would have to speed up to be slow but I don’t have any time goals in mind for the races. My goal is to finish vertically. Training on the next to the river is very peaceful and it easy very easy to just zone out and flow with the other runners, walkers, and bicyclists. I have been running the trails for over 21 years now and just love them.

Do you have a place where you can go and just zone out?

Graffiti Wednesday – Update at Mad Mike’s

You know I’ve been busy lately. I can’t get around and check things out like I like to. My geocaching finding is falling way off. That is the way things are these days isn’t it. Everybody is just too dang busy. Well I haven’t been over to Tulsa’s graffiti permission zone, Mad Dog Liquor in east Tulsa in quite a while. I was at a natural gas industry bowling event (not kidding!) in east Tulsa and had a little time after the event and before the banquet to go check out Mad Dog Liquor and see what was happening with their graffit.

DSCN0952

I was not disappointed. There were several new pieces including the one above. You know, there is a lot I haven’t figured out about graffiti but I have kind of picked up that the the artists feel free to add to each other’s work. Fro example I don’t think that the words in yellow above were by the original guy (or gal). I love the orginal work; it just kind of shouts out, big and bold in 3D.

DSCN0947

One thing I haven’t figured out is how to read graffiti. Above is an example by somebody is using letters I recongnize but I can’tfigure out the words.

DSCN0950

I can’t figure out this either. The texture is just all fleshy, soft, and ew, yuck but it stands out. Again, I think the dashed yellow “chains” are a later addition. I don’t know if it is a sign of respect or disrespect.

DSCN0948

Something else that I can’t figure out, and is added onto, I think.

DSCN0949

I love this creepy, dark, character. Graffiti is just plain creepy and disturbing. Don’t ask my why I am fascinated by it. I am fascinated by the things and people that everyone else hates, like Marilyn Manson. What has he ever done to anybody? You tell me that the evil guy tears the pages out of a Bible during a concert? So what? the Bible isn’t just ink on paper. I say that at least he is taking a Bible to his concerts. Do you take your Bible to a concert? His music certainly doesn’t make him famous. If he didn’t have his evil schtick, he’d be lucky to find a job sacking groceries as far as I am concerned.

#graffiti #tulsa #oklahoma Mikes Liquors #permissionzine

The slight details in graphically made designs and logos are interesting. The “O” is similar to the “O” in the Oklahoma State University logo.  The worm on the right is pretty common in graffiti I’ve seen. I think the green squiggles are are an add on as are the blue “bricks.” It seems that the bricks are a way to gradually cover up graffiti over time. I’ve seen similar bricks added onto an abandoned YMCA mural in downtown Tulsa. Every few months more of the mural is covered up. What it means? Shoot I don’t know!

Breast is Best

So much of graffiti is ironic. This seems so “third world” with all the drama about the big bad evil corporations with their infant formula vs those who advocate for breast feeding. That controversy is big still here in the good ole’ USA. Big guilt trips for those women who for one reason or another cannot breastfeed their children to the extent that one source I read claimed a hospital required mothers who wanted their children to be fed formula to sign a release. What do I think? I think mothers, especially those of newborns need lots of support and grace, not guilt and releases to sign. What do you think?

Thanks (or blame) to the person to Jen at are you there, god? it’s me, generation x

Jen is the blogger who got me interested in Graffiti. She is interesting, and so awesome and has amazing insight into lots of different things. She is also teaching a blogging class that I lived in Oklahoma City I’d be attending. Check the link, maybe you can still sign up.

Our World – Chalkfest

Things are happenning in downtown Tulsa. All three of us went to see the Blue Man Group at the Performing Arts Center and then afterwords we ventured about three blocks to the south to the “Deco District” to see the goings on at Chalkfest.

DSCN0984

Each artist is given a 10×10 section of pavement to do their thing.

DSCN0982

We were early enough that there were not any finished works.

DSCN0977

The artists were giving it their all and the early results looked impressive.

DSCN0986

They had lots of chalk available for freelancers and they were going for it.

DSCN0971

Sweetie and I loved this. A horse with a blue hand print done in memory of the artist to their Grandpa.

If they have it next year, I’ll be there.

It is getting close to Fall and the coffee shops are already pushing their Pumpkin Spice Latte’s.

Bake Something Sweet (or just eat something sweet)

Birthday Cake

I am not much of a baker but I’m a heck of an eater. Sweetie made me this Pioneer Woman’s Birthday Cake. I think we need to have a cooking and baking thowdown with Mrs. Drummond. My money is on Sweetie.

Fawn

I love coming upon deer while I’m out geocaching. I found this little critter in a park in Wichita, Kansas.

SUNP0036

I’m not much of an artist but I have a collection of cameras including a Yashica FX camera that can shoot in pics in various modes including a “negative” mode. I love it. That is about as artistic as I get.

Scavenger Hunt Sunday

Introducing YogiCam at Tulsa’s River Parks

Sunday, Sweetie and I went on our Anniversary Bike Ride at Tulsa’s River Parks.. It was also the inauguaral ride for the “Amazing YogiCam.”  The YogiCam made us able to fully document our ride via about 81 pics but I’m only going to share a few of them with you. You irritate me I’m going to make you look at all of them.

YogiCam1

There were many other bike riders on the trails Sunday.

DSCN0861

One section had just opened and there was still a lot of construction equipment. I love construction equipment. (Just in case you were wondering to get me for Christmas.)

YogiCam 3

Lots of Walkers.

YogiCam 5

And Disk Golf Players.

YogiCam 6

And works of art.

YogiCam 8

And lots of bike riders passing us. Lots of them.

YogiCam 9

Near the ampitheater on the west bank it looked like a concert was going on. I think it was a worship service. Sweeetie and I were total pagans that day. Sorry if that offends you. Maybe the River Parks Authority should post copies of the Ten Commandments on both sides of the river every mile or so. That’ll chase us into church! Right!

DSCN0918

Back across the river on the Pedestrian Bridge. Talk about an obstacle course, trying to maneuver between the fishermen, the waddlers, the baby strollers going side by side, and the stop and talkers in the middle people I was too busy steering to by YogiCaming. Sorry.

YogiCam 10

Lots of dog walkers out and about.

YogiCam 11

And kids at the Quik Trip Plaza playground and splash pads. I think splash pads are the world’s greatest invention. I wish I had them when I was a kid.

DSCN0940

We did pass one other biker on our trek Sunday. She acted a little irritated when I used the bell. The trouble with saying “On your left!” is that about half the people then turn left! They never do that with a bell. Some of them give me the one finger salute though.

So that was YogiCam. It’s not a fancy GoPro, its just a small point shoot Nikon on a lanyard.

I love Tulsa’s River Parks. Lots and lots of stuff going on and I didn’t get pics of the people fishing and the kayakers, and the mountain bikers on Turkey Mountain.

Fun stuff folks.
