Logan’s Senior Year Collage
Logan is a senior this year and his school does a good job of making the seniors feel special. One thing they do is display collages of the students in the hallways so last night, in amongst checking out the super moon from time to time we picked out the twelve images out of the thousands we have and then made our collage in Picmonkey. So this is our creation showing him from his first birthday stuffing cake into his mouth up through the years to a few weeks ago riding a horse.
We had a lot of fun putting it together.
Geocaching, Saying Goodbye to the Kid, and the Dallas Cowboys get a Win
Saturday I dropped the kid off at his school for rehearsals for a one act play that he has a part in. He is a little busy these days. We suspended horseback riding for a while because of the rehearsals and he is missing his improv comedy workshop on Saturday. It is nice for him to be busy. Speaking of busy I went to Walmart after I dropped Logan off and got some stuff for making geocaches. I have three that have gone missing (“Muggled” is the term we nerds use) so I have to replace them plus I wanted to place one at the Tulsa Arrow that I found a couple weeks ago. Camo duct tape is a geocachers best friend. The waterproof match containers make great waterproof “microcaches.” The orange box makes for a good geocache container. I’ll use lots and lots of camo duct tape covering up the orange. The hot wheels are for trade trinkets in the caches in case you bring kids along. And I love Altoids and the empty tins are good cache containers if you can keep them out of the weather because they are not waterproof.
So after Walmart I buzzed downtown and replaced a geocache “Boys Night Out Downtown” that Logan and I placed in 2010 and has been found about 249 times and muggled five times. It is in a spot that homeless people find to be a great overnight sleeping area. By the time I got the thing camo taped and placed I got a text from the kid to come pick him up and then we drove up to north Tulsa’s Reservoir Hill to place the new cache.
It took us a while to find a good spot. I want it to be far away from houses and nowhere close to the City of Tulsa water infrastructure that is also there. I found a good spot, maybe too good. I placed the cache and it promptly disappeared from view so I suggested on the cache page that you bring gloves. So anyway here is the cache page for Tulsa Arrow. I wrote it up on Saturday and it got approved on Sunday.
On Sunday we packed Logan up and took him to school to catch a bus for the Senior Trip. They bused the kids down to TAhlequah, Oklahoma and are going rafting Monday morning on the Illinois River. So Heather and I are childless for about 24 hours. We kind of miss the kid actually but he’ll be back by the time I get home from work. He is really having a good year at school this year. He is taking drama and choir and he loves those classes.
So Heather and I didn’t feel like going out to eat so we went to the local sprouts store to pick up some Salmon. I am a fan of exotic tasting chips and so I found the these pumpkin spiced chips. They are okay but overly sweet and they have no salt. If they had left the salt in, I’d be buying a case of them. They do have a satisfying crunch to them.
And speaking of satisfying the Dallas Cowboys beat the Philadelphia Eagles in Philly with the help of my two friends above. The Eagles didn’t play very well and Dallas had 18 penalties. Might be the last win for the Cowboys in a while. Tony Romo broke his clavicle and it looks like Dez Bryant is going to be out for a couple months with his broken foot.
Oh well, that was what happened this weekend. What about you?
Scavenger Hunt Sunday – Posed Edition
Another edition of Ashley Sisk’s Scavenger Hunt Sunday where she provides prompts and we provide the pics.
1. Supplies
This is from a camp out last year on Turkey Mountain during an event called Base Camp. Which is the only night one can legally go camping on Turkey Mountain all year. I have a pretty nice setup from my Cub Scout Assistant Den Leader Days. I have a nice roomy tent, a cot and even a night stand. And of course a decent cooler. Out Cub Scouts now I generally have different things to drink that what I brought back then. This is my post from last year’s event. I don’t know if I’m going to make it this year. Son is a senior and we have all sorts of things going on with him.
2. Shadows
These shadows are from a bridge at Powell Gardens near Kansas City.
3. Something I want
Heather and Logan are all that I want and I already have them. I am notoriously difficult to buy presents for because I don’t really want for anything. And no, that is not our donkey. I want pictures of donkeys but don’t give me the real thing.
The past several weeks all the schools have been opening their doors for school. One thing I love about facebook is all the parents posting first day of school pics of their kids.
5. Posed
Saturday, Logan and I hiked five miles on Turkey Mountain. We both got a little parched and tired because it was hot and humid but took time to take a few pics. I thought this tree made a nice prop for a photo.

Saturday Critters – Logan and Cisco
This is Logan riding Cisco. Often Logan rides outside but it was raining today so Logan rode in the arena at All-star Therapy Group in Ramona, Oklahoma. Logan has been doing Therapeutic Horseback Riding there for some time. The folks that run the center really have a heart for their clients.
I ran this photo through Topaz Impressions with their “Cezanne I” filter and then faded it a little bit so it is about 75% filter and 25% original photo.

Saturday’s Critters – More Yellowstone Bear World
As I wrote about yesterday we visited Yellowstone Bear World in eastern Idaho this past weekend. Bear World has lots of critters. I liked the bison above and appreciated him posing for me. That is a classic look. Bison have such big heads and they stand around a lot. I have always suspected that they think deep thoughts while doing so.
The property also has elk including this white elk. Their web site explains that it is not an albino elk. I got confused about the whole thing.
They also have about 45 bears. They were all up and moving. We have been there before and the bears were pretty sedentary, last weekend, the bears were on the prowl. It was nice seeing them so active.
The web site explains that none of the bears were captured from the wild. They were all born in captivity.
They had some cubs in a separate area to protect them from the adults. Is there anything cuter than a bear cub?
And they have moose, Their is nothing ungainlier looking than a moose. Give them room though. They are notoriously bad tempered. They must be Dallas Cowboys fans. The Cowboys make all their fans cranky.
And swans.
And chickens
And some ducks. Sorry about the picture of duck sex going on. I try to keep it family friendly but what the heck.
You know, fawns may be cuter than bear cubs. This one found a secluded spot away from everybody in the petting zoo.
Heather and Logan found the goats.
And Logan found a pig. He loves pot bellied pigs.
We had a great time.

Boys Night Out – Exiled from the House
Heather has her monthly book group all year but she hosts it one month generally in the summer. Lots of preparation goes into a book group meeting. The house gets cleaned and the decorations refreshed. Menus are examined, the wines and other refreshments purchased. And of course the book has to be read. It is a big deal. The group has been meeting I think for around twenty years or more.
Logan and I always bug out when the book group is at our house. When he was basically a newborn I stayed with him upstairs in the nursery while the book group was meeting. All the other times we go somewhere. We call it “Boys Night Out.” On school nights we generally just go eat and check out a bookstore or something. During the summer we can stay out later. Last Tuesday night, we went downtown and had some barbecue and then walked down to the stadium from the restaurant. I love that we can do that now.
I love baseball at any level from peewee games to the major leagues. Tulsa has a AA team that plays at a high level. My employer bought naming rights to the stadium and so we get tickets at half price. I love it.
Now Logan hates baseball and so he takes his book and he likes to get up and wander up and down the aisle. So here he is going down.
And here is coming back up with his Harry Potter book under his arm.
He finally settled down some so we could watch the game. Not many people out on a Tuesday night so we could stretch out.
We left with about an inning to go. I am not one who has to stay until the bitter end. I just like watching the game and my fellow fans
Like this guy who was looking for a family member. Such an expressive look.
Do you ever get locked out of the house because of something your spouse has going on?
Senior Picture Shoot
I always claim the right to take pictures of people taking pictures in public places. I did that yesterday of the photographer taking pictures of son Logan. The guy was good! He put Logan, who hates getting dressed up and especially hates changing out of perfectly clean clothes into other clothes. I just tagged along.
Heather made a great assistant holding the reflector as the photographer did his thing. I’m going to have to get one of those things. I wouldn’t know what to do with it but it sure looks cool.
I think both Heather and I teared up during the session. Our baby is getting all growns up. It seems like just yesterday we loaded him up for first grade. He has turned into quite the young man. He has overcome a lot of challenges and I think will do well.
Anyways we get the proofs in about a week and a half. The guy was good so my expectations are high. I imagine we’ll buy almost everything. We might have to get a second mortgage but you only get Senior Pictures once. Well, at least hope it is just once.
Scavenger Hunt Sunday – Summer Fun Edition
1. Summer Fun
Here I am on a beach on Kauai. I have never seen so many beaches as what Hawaii has. How come they have so many and Oklahoma has so few? It isn’t fair is what I say.
2. Sleepy
This is our Maltese ShiTzu mix, Abby. She likes a pillow. It is funny how dogs are different. 3. A sign
Here is Heather giving me the hang loose sign. I can’t make the sign. I guess that means I can’t hang loose. I get pretty close though.4. Starts with B
How about “Baby Donkey?” This is Roscoe, if you are observant you can tell he is a boy. I love his hairdo.
Hey you know, my favorite weekends are hanging out with these two.

Shameful or What?
Saturday afternoon, the weather said 91F, my car said 100F. Me and Logan need to get some exercise but he doesn’t handle the heat to well and he is still nursing his ankle. So I said, “Hey, you want to do go mall walking Buddy?” He kind of did the “Sure Dad, and so off we went.
The plan was to park at the upper floor of Sears at one end and walk on down to Macy’s and back while going through the two big stores in the middle, J.C. Penney’s and Dillards.
We weren’t really prepared, neither one of us was wearing Hush Puppy’s for instance.
Red Cross was there taking people’s blood. I used to give blood many moons ago but things got worse and worse. One time they backflowed the heparin into my arm. Now that was painful. The last time I gave blood my wife had to come get me. So sorry guys. You can’t have my blood today. Logan didn’t feel like it either.
Outside Eskimo Joes. If you are from Oklahoma you have probably heard of them. It is a restaurant that also sells a lot of clothes. I bought a nice Route 66 themed shirt on sale. The lady asked me if I would like to join their club. No thanks, last time I was here was in 1992.
I think it was in Penney’s, I offerred to be Logan a Cars themed back pack. He didn’t seem that that would be okay for a high school senior. Besides his Mom does all his school shopping.
The food court. Neither Logan can stand loud crowd noises. So no thanks, we’ll go elsewhere.
Macy’s had a great dish display.
The old carousel. Not the same one as eon’s ago but he rode one just like it around and around and around.
We were walking not shopping but this window scared me. Those super heroes look pretty angry to me.
And what is up with this. Since when is ice cold equal to 37 degrees. For pure water it is 32 degrees. For sugar water it is probably a lot less than that is what I say.
What is up with all the hat stores. I have never actually seen anybody buy a hat in one of those stores. What is up with that?
And what is up with all the sports logo merchandise? The University of Oklahoma, Okalahoma State, it just flies off the shelves. I’ll tell you though that one good thing about being a Dallas Cowboy fan is that they discount the merchandise pretty heavily about three games into the season.
At about 75% of the way through the mall. I’m getting kind of tired of it all. But the AC is working great.
Logan outside the Apple Store. He is an Apple man through and through. I’m cheap, I have an Ipod touch and an Android phone. I can change the battery for $7 and have a big old cheap 32 Gig memory chip to help out the 16G built in. Try that with your Iphone.
Logan and his cool new friends. Say goodbye dude, we have to go.
About 2.25 miles and DON’T YOU JUDGE ME!!!
