Timeless Sky

Woolaroc Sky Tree - Paint Shop

Over Thanksgiving my brother Bob came up from Corpus Christi and so he, Logan, and I went to Woolaroc for an afternoon. Woolaroc is oilman Frank Phillips old ranch and private museum up in Pioneer Woman country of Osage County. Woolaroc is a throwback to the 1920″s with rock buildings and barns and old craggy trees like the one above. I can’t get enough of it. This old tree is growing up right by the museum.

And…. in a totally non-related matter….

Best Christmas Pageant Ever Poster

Logan auditioned for and got a small part in Clark Theater’s “The Best Christmas Pageant Ever.” He, and the rest of the cast and crew have been working hard in rehearsals and their debut is Thursday. We are very excited for him. There is a bunch of family coming to see the production on Saturday and Heather and I will be seeing lots of the play in the coming week and a half. The production is almost all sold out. We are very glad to see this. The city almost succeeded in shutting the theater down but we got one more year and then we’ll see next year.

So have you ever been on a protest at City Hall?

Ruby Tuesday – Cousins at the Zoo

IMG_9297

This past summer son and I went to Idaho Falls to see my Dad. Sister Ellen and her husband Irv and their grandson Mr. Beans drove up from Colorado Springs and so we all met up and had a good time. Above is son Logan and his cousin Mr. Beans in a red archway at the local Zoo in Idaho Falls, Tautphaus Park Zoo.

Here is a little bit better shot.

Oh well, it was kind of a shadowy face kind of sun while we were there.

Friday Night Lights – Oklahoma High School Football – Go Team Go!!

IMG_9471

As I’ve posted earlier Logan has moved over to another school. Things are going well and he has had to step up his game quite a bit but he has started settling in. Tonight we went to the school for its first football game of the season and to attend a tailgate party with the Head of School and tour the new weight room.

IMG_9473

Logan is not a football player but we were seriously impressed with the new weight room. Seriously, a lot of equipment.

IMG_9472

Things have certainly changed since I was in high school. And seriously, I am so glad!!

IMG_9478

When I went to school, way back before the dark ages even started, there were no sponsors for the schools.

IMG_9476

I love the slogan “In Jesus Name we Play”

IMG_9485

Well, we ate our burgers and listened to speeches and then it was time to head out to the football field. The school has lots and lots of cheerleaders. I think that is a good thing. Maximum participation is my thing. You know when I was their age I thought the cheerleaders were so exotic and beautiful. Now they seem so young! Heather says that is because I am so old. She has a way of reality checking me. One thing that is the same is that cheerleaders really get into what they are doing. I think it is good for young people to get into what they are doing. Matter of fact, that is good for everybody!! Don’t ya think?

IMG_9494

I like taking pics of people taking pics even if my pic is a fuzzy pic.

IMG_9495

Whoa, what is that! It is a drone. These kind of drones have cameras instead of Hellfire missiles. Which makes it my kind of drone. I instantly updated my Christmas list right then and there at the game. Heather tore up the list.

And then the game started. I love football. It has been 43 years since I last attended at high school football game at good old Round Valley High School in Eagar, Arizona. I don’t know why those guys on the sidelines are hugging each other.

IMG_9518

Logan’s school was playing a home schooled team. That is something else you never used to see. They played danged hard. I love watching a good game and there was lots for both teams to feel good about.

We left at half time. Bleachers have not gotten softer in 43 years but I have. We’ll be back.

New Stuff

I found a drone on Amazon for about $50. Check it out.

Here is a video of it in action.

New School for Logan this Year

IMG_20140821_202211

Young Logan has started a new school this year and so far everything is going great!! He has been going a week and a half now and he seems to really like it.  He is taking some tough classes like Biology, Geometry, and Sign Language.

Mud Night at #metrochristianacademy #tulsa #oklahoma #igersok fun fun fun! #snapseed

The school really makes an effort to make everyone feel welcome with several events such as as “Mud Night” which fortunately was more grassy than muddy but was still a lot of fun for everybody. The kids certainly got into it. We are so proud of Logan, despite not knowing anybody he went to the first dance and the mud night and had fun.  We are also proud of the other kids. Some of them are really making an effort to include him in what is going on and making sure he has somebody to sit with at lunch.

It is not a special needs school but they do have a program where they make accommodations and support for the kids that need it. We are very impressed with what has happened so far and are hopeful for the future.

Logan - chapel day

His old school served him well for years. He started out in public school and despite the efforts of his classroom teachers who put their heart and soul into their kids, the administration refused to provide the help he needed. We went to another school and it was a lifesaver. They gave him a voice (maybe too much of a voice!) and self confidence and he blossomed. We felt the need to change to a college prep school and encouraged by his speech therapist and an occupational therapist we started the search. Heather did all the work and it was a God thing, a door suddenly opened and we found a great situation. We know the going is going to be a lot tougher but we think he is up to it.

Further reports coming as things develop.

Our World – Up the Hill with Bob

Cisco getting ready to work #horses

Last Saturday Logan and I ventured up to All-Star Therapy Group in Ramona. Ramona is pretty close to Pioneer Woman Country. We got there and Cisco was getting prepped for Logan’s lesson.

IMG_9397

We went outside, which is always my favorite and stopped for a brief photo op.

IMG_9399

Bob, the guy that runs the place and who has an incredible heart for the kids that take classes there grabbed three of the kids and told me to c’mon and off we went across the pasture.

IMG_9402

And then up the hill through the trees and brush. And these kids know that you lean forward in the saddle just a hair when you go up the hill.

IMG_9404

We got to the top of the hill, where on a clear day you can see downtown Tulsa, and got everybody arranged and then told everybody to smile.

IMG_9407

It was my turn to do my thing.

IMG_9411

And then it was time to go down the hill. With Bob reminding everybody to lean back just a little back in the saddle.

Foto Friday Fun #8177 or close to it anyway

Blogfriend Gaelyn, Park Service Ranger, at the north rim of the Grand Canyon, and of Geogypsy, one of my favorite blogs, has had a long running feature on Fridays called “Foto Friday Fun” where her readers give her a random number and she posts from her archives that have that number. She is expanding it to a new meme where others can participate by searching their archives for a given number. She started off this week with 8177.

20100804_177

Well it turns out I didn’t have a single 8177 so I’m cheating with 177. This is a picture of Logan at Legoworld in southern California. He is a big Lego fan and this was a fun trip for everybody. Our Legoland adventure was fodder for several posts including this one.

The number for next week is 7777

Off to the Ball Game

IMG_9320

Heather had her book group last night so Logan and I had our monthly “Boys Night Out.” It will be our last one this summer that is not a school night and we decided to go  to Top That Pizza to eat and then go downtown to ONEOK Field to see our hometown AA Drillers play the Springfield Cardinals last night.

IMG_9321

The game was uninspiring but it was nice an cool and being a Tuesday night it was uncrowded and this being Tulsa we saw a couple of people I know. Tulsa is the biggest small town I’ve ever seen. I swear that almost anybody you meet here if you start talking with them pretty soon you will find several mutual acquaintances. I’ve never seen anything like it anywhere else.

IMG_9324

Anyway, after our night of pizza, ice cream for Logan, a nice wheat beer for me, we headed home. I think this was our 193rd monthly boys night out.

I hope that we have a thousand hundred more.

Water World Wednesday – At the Beach

PICT0672

We were on vacation last week on the Alabama coast. The coast means beach and the beach means water, lots of water. I had some waterproof recyclable cameras and I took them out in the water. They are not as good as digital cameras but they took a good soaking and kept on going. And to be truthful I like the timeless look that some of them like the above have.

PICT0675

I could fearlessly hold the cameras just a few inches off the water. I have a “waterproof” camera also but I would never risk it. Sorry, I’m an engineer and I don’t care how good the seals and gaskets are, they will fail at some point.

45570022

I beg your pardon for the selfie. And no, I wasn’t drunk.  After getting a gouge taken out of my forehead this year I’m in a high spf mode these days, note the big hat and the technical shirt which worked great in the water. I didn’t feel weighed down or uncomfortable at all.

45570019

Well, this is more like it. Heather and I really like the beach.

45570013

Another pic of son, He is a great swimmer and is like a fish. We’ve been taking him to the beach for years.
