Our World – Turkey Mountain Autumn

Saturday, son SuperPizzaBoy and I made a trek on Turkey Mountain here in Tulsa to replace a geocache of ours that had gone missing.

The weather was ridiculously warm, up in the 70’s, and it was very dry.

Turkey Mountain had a lot of fall color. With the clear sky and sunny day it was almost sparkly.

It was very windy in Tulsa and the tops of trees on the mountain were being blown hard by the wind but it was still on the ground.

We pretty much had the place to ourselves. Some sort of mountain biking event was winding down by the time we got there. Once we got a quarter mile from the parking lot we only saw a handful of people in the hours we were there.

Good thing we went yesterday because it rained pretty hard up there Sunday and it got cold and overcast. We could use the rain, the ponds and lakes are getting low.

We were both tired by the time we finished but I think we both had a good time.

Weekend Reflections – Tulsa River Parks Edition

The Tulsa River Parks Authority has “Tulsa Townies” bicycle stations at two places on the River Parks.

You pick out your bicycle and then use your credit card to unlock it from the unattended solar powered station.

The bikes are free if you return them in 24 hours. If you don’t you just got yourself a $100 bicycle.

I’ve never used them but they get sold out on nice weekends. I think that it is a great idea.

Skywatch Friday – Daylight Savings Time

Its that time of year, I fell forward on Saturday night so now I’m so lazy I don’t even have to get up out of my chair to take a SWF pic. The downside is that I had two more hours to work when it is pitch dark.

Tulsa Route 66 Neon Signs

Who doesn’t love neon signs? What used to seem cheap and tacky is now cool.

I’ve loved the Meadow Gold sign here in Tulsa since it was put back up a few years ago. I didn’t realize until last night that I had never seen it lit up at night. I can’t believe it. I’ve been thinking of a good reason to not be on daylight savings time during the Winter all my life and now I finally found one. Do you happen to have another?

This is what it looks like during the day, nice but not the same.

Right down the road is El Rancho Grande. I’ve never eaten there but if the food is a good as the sign them I’m missing out.

What a sign! I love that long looping lasso that also forms the “El” part of the name. And the Arrow, just in case you are wondering where the restaurant is the arrow is telling you that it is right next to the sign. I wonder how the margaritas are?

And a bonus, right where I parked my car while taking pictures of the restaurant sign, an out of luck edgy business using corrugated metal in their storefront. Not as cool as neon, but I love the neon reflections.

Q is for Quilts. I found these prize winners at the 2012 Tulsa State Fair a couple months ago. They are works of art.

Our World – D Day Outing at Oxley Nature Center

Sunday afternoon in Tulsa was glorious, warm, sunny, dry. A great day for getting some vitamin D. Getting outside if you know what I mean. SuperPizzaBoy and I loaded up his three wheel Triton and off we went to Mary K. Oxley Nature Center on the north side of Tulsa.

The center has some old highways long blocked off from traffic that are perfect for SPB’s three wheel Triton. He doesn’t like walking like his Dad does so it is a good compromise.

He can ride for miles.

We saw brilliant Fall foliage.

And some shimmering lakes.

Oxley has lots and lots of side trails. In wetter years the walkways come in pretty handy.

We found a couple of geocaches. I’ve found almost all of them at Oxley.

We both got a few hours of exercise and probably overloaded on Vitamin D.

There was a lot to be had. And the Cowboys didn’t play until Sunday night anyway.

Scavenger Hunt Sunday – From Wild to Classic

Wild

A fat and sassy coyote that I encountered in a Bixby, Oklahoma park early one morning last Spring. Coyote’s are wild but they have adapted to urban environments. They really like to eat dogs and cats. Especially the little ones.

Welcome

I’m not too much into cute stuff but I was charmed by this. It seems welcoming to me! I am a geocacher and this was a temporary geocache at an area event last year. Check Geocaching 101 if you don’t know what I’m talking about.

Adventure

Last year for vacation we went to Gulf Shores, Alabama. A high point of our trip was a kayaking trek on the Bon Secour River. It was major fun.

Vibrant

We went to see Rod Stewart in concert a few months ago. Talk about a show!! He can still entertain. I love his sportcoat. His show was big, bright, bold, beautiful, and vibrant.

Classic

How about 1932 Marmon 8-125 Convertible Coupe. to run on down to the local Walmart for some milk? Isn’t it beautiful?
